Great Getaway in the Big South Fork - Laurel Fork Rustic Retreat |
Greetings!
Recently, the Burckhard family and friends had the awesome opportunity to spend the weekend at one of Laurel Fork Rustic Retreat's cabins in the Big South Fork. We stayed at the "Hanging it Up" cabin and were pleasantly suprised by the superb accommodations. If you are looking for a great place to getaway and enjoy some time outdoors hiking, biking, or otherwise utilize the vast trail system of the Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area, this is a great place to be. It's like having a home away from home with all the wonderful amenities of the cabins. Their prices are affordable too. All the luxury of a Gatlinburg cabin rental without all the traffic and congestion.
We took advantage of our location and took a hike on one of our favorite trails - the Angel Falls Overlook Trail at Big South Fork. That is it in the picture above. We even enjoyed a picnic at the top. What a view! It is amazing any time of the year. Our sons had brought a couple of friends along to enjoy the weekend and everyone had a great time. There was plenty to do at the cabin, inside and out, with board games, foosball table, videos, satellite HDTV, and abundant wildlife for viewing to keep all ages entertained. There's a great spot in the yard to set up a cornhole or horse shoe game. If you aren't up to hitting the trails right away, it's nice to be able to stroll along the rural road leading to the cabin.
The kitchen is superbly inviting, and the fantastic gas grill make meal time a treat! The hottub is heavenly after a long day of play. They even have stables for those that wish to bring their horses along. The fireplaces would also make this such a treat in the winter time. The giant windows opening up to the amazing view are a delight any time of year.
