Fishing 2010
Greetings!
Burckhard Family
You can tell that it's time to start fishing on DHL.  You start to see a steady (albeit slow at present) stream of fishing boats heading for the lake.  The Corps of Engineers maintains a website with the latest fishing reports and a number to call for information (931) 243-3408 if you would like to follow the progress of the season.  Word is that fishing is pretty good and improving.  I spoke with Nathan Copeland of Star Point Resort earlier this week.  They just opened up last weekend.  The fishermen they had last week were catching smallmouth.  Thursday of last week, a lady caught a 21" smallmouth.  Not bad!  He said that with the lake getting colder than normal this winter, it usually makes for great spring fishing.  The Wal-Mart BFL Tournament is this Saturday, March 20!  Even if you don't fish, if you have any interest at all, come watch the weigh-in.  It's fascinating to see all the fish that come in.  If you would like details (or a place to stay), you can call Nathan at 866.782.7768 or if you are interested in the tournament itself, you can visit the FLW website at www.FLWOutdoors.com.  You can also find a list of the fishing tournaments coming up this year on our website at this link.  There is a fundraising tournament coming up on April 24 at East Port Marina & Resort to benefit the East Tennessee Children's Hospital.  It's a great cause and if you ever wanted to fish a tournament, one of these smaller tournaments is a great place to start.  There are a couple of other tournaments coming up soon as well.  The Community Bank of the Cumberlands Bass Classic benefits the Boys & Girls Clubs of Jamestown, TN and there is another tournament coming up that benefits the Mustard Seed Ranch of the Upper Cumberland.

Easter Weekend is opening weekend for Sunset Restaurant at Sunset Marina & Resort .  They would like to invite everyone to come out and enjoy a special Easter lunch or dinner on Dale Hollow Lake.  Hours that weekend will be 10:00AM-8:00PM on Friday, April 2, Saturday, April 3 from 8:00AM-9:00PM, Sunday, April 4 from  8:00AM-7:00PM.  You can expect lots of great specials and activities throughout the coming months.  If you haven't already, sign up for Sunset's e-newsletters and receive the latest on upcoming specials and events - 10 coming up this season.

Mark your calendars for June 12th - it's National Marina Day.  Many of the marinas will be participating in some way.  Be looking forward to more information.  Also, the Dale Hollow Lake Poker Run kicks off the day before on June 11 and goes through the 20th.  Don't miss out on the fun!

Everyone is so looking forward to spring in the Dale Hollow LakeBig South Fork and Fall Creek Falls regions.  The wildflowers will begin popping up soon.  Special trail rides and hikes are on the horizon.  Be sure to check with the local parks and trail ride vendors to see what is coming up.   Many of the state parks have great events throughout the year.  Most of the horse stables and camps offer themed rides.  It's a great way to have a good time, meet new people, and have a guide show you the way around.  Golfers!  The greens are almost ready (some are).  Check with Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park to scedule your tee time.  You can reach them by phone at 270.433.7431.  There are also many other great course in the Fall Creek Falls area, including at The Reserve at Collins River and in the Crossville, TN area.  Let's get out and play on the Plateau!

Happy Trails!

Terry & Andrea Burckhard
