It is almost March. I think most everyone is anxious to see this winter to be history. This weekend will mark the
9th Annual World Championship PIG Tournament at Forbus General Store in Pall Mall, TN. PIG is a local card game that is gaining in popularity. It's a great day of fun around the old pot bellied stove in a charming old country store. Come watch them play. Pick up a few souvenirs. Enjoy some excellent country food and atmosphere. (They also have great homemade fudge.) This time of year is an excellent time to dream of what you want to do to enjoy your free time in the coming months. The Cumberland Plateau has much to offer without all the crowds and expenses of the larger and more metropolitan destinations, plus the area is within a days drive to 3/4 of the US population. That's plenty of time to get here, unpack, enjoy a good meal and relax under the stars and enjoy a tranquil evening....even on a long trip. Be sure to stop by
Booth C-51 at the
Indianapolis Boat, Sport & Travel Show this weekend and say "hello" to Terry. He will be manning our booth and will have plenty of free guides to pick up. Several of our advertisers and sponsors will also be there, some might even have special offers or door prizes to give away.
The fish will be spawning soon and there aren't many more days left to enjoy winter fishing on Dale Hollow Lake. Everyone is gearing up for a new season. Rest assured,
Sunset Marina & Resort is gearing up for the beginning of the spring season too. They are busy spring cleaning and stocking the Ships Store with new merchandise arriving daily. The restaurant floor is getting a "face lift" in anticipation of opening day, Friday, April 2nd. Chef Zoom will again be at the helm of the restaurant. You can expect lots of great specials and activities. Mark your calendars for June 12th - it's National Marina Day. Many of the marinas will be participating in some way. Be looking forward to more information. Also, the
Dale Hollow Lake Poker Run kicks off the day before on June 11 and goes through the 20th. Don't miss out on the fun!
East Port Marina & Resort is anxiously awaiting the arrival of
The Black Pearl. If you want to be sure you have the opportunity to enjoy it this year, you better make your reservations now. Summer 2010 only has so many days and you don't want to miss out. Don't forget to reserve one of the new boat slips at
Star Point Resort before they are all gone too.
Everyone in the
Big South Fork and
Fall Creek Falls areas are also in preparation for spring. The wildflowers will begin popping up in a couple of weeks. Special trail rides and hikes will be coming up soon. Be sure to check with the local parks and trail ride vendors to see what is on the horizon. Fall Creek Falls State Park has many great events throughout the year, as well as most of the other state parks. Most of the horse stables offer themed rides throughout the spring, summer, fall and early winter. It's a great way to have a good time, meet new people, and have a guide show you the way around. Then you can schedule another time to come back and go out on your own feeling more confident of your surroundings.
Golfers! It won't be long at all until you can hit the links. Check with
Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park to see when you can tee off. You can reach them by phone at 270.433.7431. There are also many other great course in the Fall Creek Falls area, including at
The Reserve at Collins River and in the Crossville, TN area. Make your plans today!
Happy Trails!
