It's that time of year. Peak Leaf Peeping Season on the Cumberland Plateau will occur in most of the area in the next few days. This weekend will likely be the best to get out and photograph the magnificient colors. We have had quite a bit of rain recently and a good deal of wind to accompany it last night. The colors were quite vibrant this morning and should remain so over the weekend. With the diversity of the hardwood species throughout the region, there should be quite a bit of - to some color for the next few weeks. However, much will depend upon the weather. Even though skies are predicted to be somewhat overcast tomorrow, it should be a great viewing day. It would be a great time to plan on taking the Haunted Hollow Express at Big South Fork Scenic Railway in nearby Stearns, KY -
www.bsfsry.com, or just to get out an enjoy any of the haunted houses, Ghostly Gatherings (
www.historicrugby.org), mazes or other things to do throughout the area. There is an updated event calendar below to help you decide where you want to go throughout the regions! It still a great time to get out on the area lakes to enjoy a little late season cruise before winterizing the boat. Fishing is improving with the cooler waters. Hiking and horseback riding are excellent choices and if you like the mud....well it's a great time to enjoy some OHV activity.
Happy Fall!
