I apologize for the inconvenience and inaccuracies, but there were a few errors in the previous send. The web address for the
www.kyvacations.com is incorrectly listed in most cases as
www.kyvactions.com. Also, the October 3 Autumn Street Fair in the Fall Creek Falls section is listed incorrectly as Street Fair, and the MTNA Nursery Show (a national wholesale show) is at the Civic Center and the Retail Nursery Show is at the farmer's market - 2 separate events. The corrections have been made below.
Fall is definitely in the air. Wildflowers dot the roadsides, wildlife are getting ready for winters chill and the impending hunting seasons (some of which are now open), and the ever so faint hints of the brilliant reds, oranges, yellows, and browns are beginning to show in the forest canopy. The days are getting shorter and the calendars are getting fuller - so much to savor before winter sets in. There's an awesome line up on wonderful festivals and events that we would like to share with you below. We will highlight a few, but we will let you research further those that intrigue you the most. You can find a listing of local events on the
www.Go2DHL.com,
www.Go2BSF.com, and
www.Go2FCF.com event pages. Keep in mind that the
Cumberland County Playhouse has an exciting line up of exceptional shows and concerts this fall. Check their website for the show schedules and concert information and to purchase tickets prior to arrival.
Bluegrass Underground and
Sunset Jammers also offer great bluegrass music throughout the year.
The Dale Hollow Lake Poker Run was loads of fun for those that participated. We are working to finalize the winners list and it should be finalized soon. The winners should be posted on
www.DaleHollowLakePokerRun.com later today. We appreciate your patience.
The
car shows schedule for 2009 run through the month of October. Byrdstown Kountry Kruisers meet the
first Saturday, Standing Stone Cruisers meet the
2nd Saturday, the club from Sparta, TN meets on the
3rd Saturday, and the club in Somerset, KY (one of the largest) meets on the
4th Saturday. Monticello, KY is every
Thursday night, plus there is a big event during the Roller Coaster Yard Sale (
www.rollercoasterfair.com) - the Cumberland River Cruise In at Alex Montgomery Chevrolet in Burkesville, KY (
Saturday, October 3rd).
If you or anyone you know loves a yard sale or treasure hunt. The
Roller Coaster Yard Sale is for them! The event takes place from October 1-3 with over 150 miles of the oldest and most authentic marathon yard sale in the states of Tennessee and Kentucky. This is the 24th year. Next year a 25th Anniversary Celebration is being planned to coincide with the sale. If you have items to sell, this is a great opportunity to enjoy the generally pleasant weather of early autumn and make a little cash to help with holiday expenses or
fundraising events for any charity. We encourage all the
civic organizations in the area to make the most of this opportunity. Charitable donations have been down and the needs have been far greater than in recent memory. Rally your local members and community to welcome the numerous shoppers that will be making the most of their spending dollars during this event.
Shoppers, this is your opportunity to make your dollar go as far as possible. We expect vendors to be out in full force. It has been said that the Hwy. 127 Sale was bigger than ever this year largely due to folks trying to
make the most of their budgets through sales and purchases.
October 17th is the
2nd Annual Sgt. York Day in the beautiful "Valley of the Three Forks" - Pall Mall, TN. There will be a Senior Citizens Essay Contest that is open to the seniors of the area and an Art Contest for the youth of the local school systems. (If you would be interested in offering a prize for either, please reply to this e-mail.) It is the Foundations hope that these contests will help spur the citizens of the area to keep the flames of our heritage burning brightly.
There is still room for vendors. So if you know of anyone that is interested in setting up or you would like to learn more about the event. Visit the Sgt. York Patriotic Foundation website at
