Festivals, Fun, Music, History, Adventure & More Await!
Greetings!

Fall is definitely in the air.  Wildflowers dot the roadsides, wildlife are getting ready for winters chill and the impending hunting seasons (some of which are now open), and the ever so faint hints of the brilliant reds, oranges, yellows, and browns are beginning to show in the forest canopy.  The days are getting shorter and the calendars are getting fuller - so much to savor before winter sets in.  There's an awesome line up on wonderful festivals and events that we would like to share with you below.  We will highlight a few, but we will let you research further those that intrigue you the most.  You can find a listing of local events on the www.Go2DHL.com, www.Go2BSF.com, and www.Go2FCF.com event pages.  Keep in mind that the Cumberland County Playhouse has an exciting line up of exceptional shows and concerts this fall.  Check their website for the show schedules and concert information and to purchase tickets prior to arrival.  Bluegrass Underground and Sunset Jammers also offer great bluegrass music throughout the year.

The Dale Hollow Lake Poker Run was loads of fun for those that participated.  We are working to finalize the winners list and it should be finalized soon.  The winners should be posted on www.DaleHollowLakePokerRun.com later today.  We appreciate your patience.

The car shows schedule for 2009 run through the month of October.  Byrdstown Kountry Kruisers meet the first Saturday, Standing Stone Cruisers meet the 2nd Saturday, the club from Sparta, TN meets on the 3rd Saturday, and the club in Somerset, KY (one of the largest) meets on the 4th Saturday.  Monticello, KY is every Thursday night, plus there is a big event during the Roller Coaster Yard Sale (www.rollercoasterfair.com) - the Cumberland River Cruise In at Alex Montgomery Chevrolet in Burkesville, KY (Saturday, October 3rd).

If you or anyone you know loves a yard sale or treasure hunt.  The Roller Coaster Yard Sale is for them!  The event takes place from October 1-3 with over 150 miles of the oldest and most authentic marathon yard sale in the states of Tennessee and Kentucky.  This is the 24th year.  Next year a 25th Anniversary Celebration is being planned to coincide with the sale.  If you have items to sell, this is a great opportunity to enjoy the generally pleasant weather of early autumn and make a little cash to help with holiday expenses or fundraising events for any charity.  We encourage all the civic organizations in the area to make the most of this opportunity.  Charitable donations have been down and the needs have been far greater than in recent memory.  Rally your local members and community to welcome the numerous shoppers that will be making the most of their spending dollars during this event.  Shoppers, this is your opportunity to make your dollar go as far as possible.  We expect vendors to be out in full force.  It has been said that the Hwy. 127 Sale was bigger than ever this year largely due to folks trying to make the most of their budgets through sales and purchases

October 17th is the 2nd Annual Sgt. York Day in the beautiful "Valley of the Three Forks" - Pall Mall, TN.  In honor of the 91st Anniversary of the historic French WWI battle that brought recognition to this humble humanitarian.  A wide range of festivities are being planned with special focus on the historic aspects of his time and activities for children visiting the area. There will be a Senior Citizens Essay Contest that is open to the seniors of the area and an Art Contest for the youth of the local school systems.  (If you would be interested in offering a prize for either, please reply to this e-mail.)  It is the Foundations hope that these contests will help spur the citizens of the area to keep the flames of our heritage burning brightly.  There is still room for vendors.  So if you know of anyone that is interested in setting up or you would like to learn more about the event.  Visit the Sgt. York Patriotic Foundation website at www.SgtYork.org.

One of the largest craft festivals around takes place September 11-13 in the Fall Creek Falls region.  The 31st Annual Mountaineer Folk Festival will have loads of crafters, musicians (including those that bring their instruments and strike up the "band" right in the vending areas) and more.  To learn more, visit www.FallCreekFalls.org.   Be sure to also check out the Upper Cumberland Air Show and on Sept. 19 (www.sparta-chamber.net), the White County Fair Sept. 4-12 (www.whitecountyfair.com) and the Warren County Fair - Sept. 11-19 (one of the free entry/free parking fairs still active)

Other great events coming up this weekend and next in the Big South Fork include: September 4-6 is the big BRIMSTONE SIDE BY SIDE SxS ROUND-UP at Brimstone Recreation. On Sept. 5, Historic Rugby celebrates with the 40th Annual Rugby Village Pilgrimage and Pickett State Park celebrates Old Timer's DaySaddle Valley Campground is also celebrating Labor Day Sept. 5-7 with a Potluck & Singing.  The following weekend offers on September 11 & 12 the Annual Wings Over the Big South Fork Air Show and Concert to Scott County, TN.  This event has become much loved over the past several years.  On the northern side of the region Sept. 10-12 is the 2009 Old Fashioned Trading Days in Williamsburg, KY.  East Fork Stables has several themed rides and events planned for this fall.  Please check their website for the latest information and to make reservations.

At Dale Hollow Lake, the Monroe County Watermelon Festival is Saturday, Sept. 5 in Tompkinsville, KY.  This is one of the largest events in Monroe County with 10,000 in attendance in previous years.  The 7th Annual Sierra Hull Bluegrass Festival will be held the following weekend on September 12th in Byrdstown, TN.  Sierra has had a busy year with many more great opportunities in her life with many awards for her talents.  Read more about her at www.SierraHull.com.  The 27th Annual Standing Stone Marbles Festival & National Rolley Hole Championship at Standing Stone State Park near Livingston, TN is also on September 12th

If you love to ride your motorcycle around the fantastic roads at Dale Hollow Lake, be sure to check into the Sgt. Wesley Tucker Memorial Ride out of Celina, TN on October 10th.  This ride offers a great route around Dale Hollow Lake, lots of food, fellowship and fun for all involved while sharing in the memory of our local hero - Sgt. Wesley Tucker.  Proceeds from the ride go for scholarships for local students.

Be sure to plan on taking the Haunted Hollow Express at Big South Fork Scenic Railway in nearby Stearns, KY this fall.  It sets out on its first trip on October 16th with other dates to follow.  The Big South Fork Scenic Railway has rides scheduled April - December and have recently expanded their schedule to better accommodate our visitors looking to enjoy the great fall foliage (and a train ride).  Visit their website for all the latest information - www.bsfsry.com

There are many other events coming up in the months ahead many are listed below - check out the listings on www.Go2DHL.com, www.Go2BSF.com, www.Go2FCF.com on the events page for more information on these and other events, plus you can find more information on places to stay, eat and more at other links through these websites.  Be sure to visit our sponsors at the end of this e-mail.  They help make these updates possible.

Enjoy!
