Greetings!

The Friends of Cordell Hull and the Sgt. Alvin C. York Patriotic Foundation are local non-profit organizations working to promote the legacy of these two outstanding gentlemen and help facilitate the preservation projects and other works of these two wonderful state parks and these organizations.  They have requested that we help them help raise money and awareness of their organizations.  Nashville based The Christie Cookie company is holding a contest and will award cash prizes to the non-profits with the most votes.  If you would take the time to vote for either of them, it would be appreciated. Just click this link to go straight to their voting page and to learn more about these individual organizations, please visit their websites linked above.

The weather forcast is looking excellent.  Plenty of sunshine and moderate temperatures with lower humidity this weekend.  There's still time to pre-register for the Dale Hollow Lake Poker Run which begins tomorrow - August 22 going through Sunday, August 30 or you can sign up anytime during the event - even the last day.  There also seems to be a little confusion about the cost of registration.  For this run, the price has been dropped to $50/hand during pre-registration (it helps us to know how many to expect and to be better organized) and $60/hand if you register during the event. If paying by credit card, their is a small processing fee required (see the storefront for details: www.shop.go2dhl.com.  The extra money goes towards the donation to the Nashville Ronald McDonald House Charities.  The price was lowered for this run to help make the event more affordable during these difficult economic times.  To help sweeten the deal further.  Several of the sponsors of the event have even included coupons (10% off breakfast, lunch or dinner at the FarmHouse Restaurant; free medium fountain drink with purchase of 2 or more slices of pizza at Dale Hollow Shell; $1 off dinner at the Parkway Family Restaurant; free small drink with Big Tom Hamburger Box at Sue's Friendly Drive-In; buy 1 biscuit & gravy and get 1 free at the Livingston or Celina Dairy Queen; discounts at Hendricks Creek Resort's store; free kids meal (hotdog or corndog with fries) with each paying adult at East Port Marina & Resort, 10% off any DHL souvenir at Bear Trapp; free appetizer w/dinner purchase at Sunset Marina & Resort; 10% off lodging at Star Point Resort; free drink with meal purchase at Sulphur Creek Resort) on the Official Dale Hollow Lake Poker Run Scorecard/Map.  These deals are only available to the Poker Run participants with their scorecard/map in hand. Don't forget.  Sunset Restaurant is hosting the big Crab Boil on Aug. 29!  Get your tickets today.  www.sunsetmarina.com.

DHLPR2REMINDER The Fun Begins AUGUST 22, 2009. BE SURE TO RESERVE YOUR CRAB BOIL TICKETS Today!

If you were not able to participate in the June Dale Hollow Lake Poker Run, you missed out on a good time on Dale Hollow Lake.  However, you are in luck.  There is another run scheduled for August 22-30, 2009, which is just around the corner and we would like to invite you to participate.

Dale Hollow Lake is a special place tucked away at the edge of the Cumberland Plateau in northern middle Tennessee and south central Kentucky.   The world record largest smallmouth bass was caught here years ago, and there have been others that have rated in the top 10 over the years - not only the beautiful bronze backs, but other species as well.  It remains a fisherman's paradise, but it is much loved for the multitude of water recreation opportunities (houseboating, water skiing, personal watercraft adventures, diving, and more), the people (musicians, crafters, farmers, and other extraordinary people), and places (shopping, parks, historic sites, and eateries) that surround its deep waters.  The region is rich in heritage, brimming with great places to eat, surrounded by the great outdoors with all the wonderful sites, sounds and smells, and offers great music on most any occasion.

The pace is slower than that of many other areas, so don't let the word run fool you.  It's not a race.  It's about having a great time on and around Dale Hollow Lake and helping to raise money for a worthy cause - Ronald McDonald House (RMH) Charities of Nashville.  The entry fee is $50 for this run (and gift item) with 50% going to Ronald McDonald House and 50% going to the winners' pot for those registering prior to the Aug. 22nd kick-off.  After Aug. 22nd, there will be a late fee of $10, which will go the RMH Charities.  There will be 10 winners with the 1st prize potential being $2,000.  You must be 18 years of age and sign the registration waiver to play.  Then you can complete your hand in one day or over the course of 9 days.  ANY age can enjoy a great time on Dale Hollow Lake.  Pick up points for this run are: Cedar Hill Resort, Eagle Cove Resort, East Port Marina & Resort, Hendricks Creek Resort, Holly Creek Resort, Sulphur Creek Resort, and Sunset Marina & Resort.  You can start at any of these distribution points - visiting each at your own pace and order during normal business hours.  You can visit by lake or by land (your choice), but you must visit each one to pick up your card and be sure you turn in your hand at the final stop. You may register online through the www.DaleHollowLakePokerRun.com link, by calling toll free:  877-864-8666, or you may register at one of the pick up points during the run (but you will have to pay the $10 late fee).

To add flavor to this event, Sunset Marina & Resort Restaurant will be featuring a Crawfish & Crab Boil on August 29 with music by artist Gary Anderson (guitarist/singer/songwriter).  Mitchell Creek Marina will also be offering their new adventure activities (ATV rides, horseback and wagon rides, paintball, hunting, canoe rides, dinner cruises, and more) even though they will not be a pick up point during this event.  Other events will be added to the website event calendar (www.DaleHollowLakePokerRun.com) as they are made public.
Sunset's Crab Boil!

Don't miss this end of the summer opportunity to get out and enjoy Dale Hollow Lake and the surrounding communities, benefit a great cause, nab a cool blue DHL Poker Run bracelet, store up a "boat load" of terrific memories, and maybe take home a little cash to sweeten the deal.  Remember, you can play by land as well as by lake!  It is a great time to get out and experience the wonderful rural scenery and enjoy the delightful smells of summer.  The picturesque winding roads offer an opportunity to slow down and take pleasure in the simple things in life.  Many of the roads are perfect for a leisurely motorcycle ride.  Historical sites dot the region.  There are numerous places to stop and shop or grab a bite to eat at one of the family diners or barbeque outlets.  Take time to enjoy some of the events and activities that will be taking place.  Savor the adventure of Dale Hollow Lake!  Stay safe and enjoy a great time!
