DALE HOLLOW LAKE POKER RUN - AFFORDABLE FAMILY FUN!
Are you looking for an inexpensive, family oriented, fun filled vacation destination for this summer? Look no further! Dale Hollow Lake is the place for you! This year also offers the very first Dale Hollow Lake Poker Run will be held from June 6-14, 2009. If you are unable to participate during June, you will get a second chance in August. The second run will be held from August 22-30, 2009. Not only will it be an opportunity to explore the Dale Hollow Lake region, it will also be an opportunity to help someone in need. These events will help raise money for the Nashville Ronald McDonald House Charities - an agency that has helped countless families make it through some really difficult times. The Poker Runs are about fun on and around Dale Hollow Lake. Each participant navigates the lake by boat or the beautiful Tennessee and Kentucky roads around the lake by motorcycle or automobile stopping at seven checkpoints along the route to pick up a single playing card at each location.The Dale Hollow Poker Run is planned as a family event that is played out over 9 days. Players can choose to complete their poker hand over just one day, a weekend, or the entire week. We have both an early summer and late summer Poker Run scheduled. Participants may start at any of the 7 participating marinas and choose their own direction and timing. The Poker Run is not a race, and there are no prizes for speed. We want this to be a safe, fun, family poker run. Eighty percent of the money collected will be paid out to the poker winners with one in five participants earning prize money. Twenty percent of the money will go to Ronald McDonald House Charities. There will be additional corporate opportunities to participate and donate to the Ronald McDonald House as well. The poker run is open to everyone, 18 years and over.... Participate by boat, motorcycle, or auto (by land or by "sea" so to speak) - your choice. The shortest route by water covers 61 miles of pristine Dale Hollow Lake waters. The most direct routes by land cover some of the most beautiful highways at a total of 225 miles of mostly winding rural roads....perfect for motorcycle riding! Hwy. 52 (a portion of the route) has been compared by some to the famous "Tail of the Dragon" in North Carolina. The Dale Hollow Lake Poker Run route has over 1,000 curves, lots of dips and hills, plenty of pastoral scenery and many, many little shops, diners, and other destinations sure to make this an exceptional event! There are several parks, historical sites and museums on and near the route as well. Great variety abounds, there is sure to be something for most everyone to enjoy. Each of the weeks will also be filled with exciting entertainment and activities all around Dale Hollow Lake. The Dale Hollow Poker Run committee will communicate the activities as they become available through the website. The fee is $100/hand (if paying by credit card, there will be a $3.00 fee added per hand). If you wait to register during the event, the fee will be $125/hand.
