Greetings!

2,400 years of human civilization can't be wrong!  Join CityRep and their co-producing partner Oklahoma City University's TheatreOCU as they present the most persistently popular comedy "classic" known to man, LYSISTRATA, by Aristophanes.  Since 411 BC audiences have been delighted with this unique comedy.  We promise plenty of broad laughs, naughty jokes, and some VERY pretty Greeks!  See how one woman, joining forces with her "sisters in crime", could put to an end a war that's gone on far too long - so long, in fact, that it seems the only reason it's still being fought is that it's such fun for the men!

Rated R - Contains adult themes, language and situations.

Rated R-contains adult themes, situations, and language.

ONE WEEKEND ONLY!

"Before 'Debbie "Did" Dallas', 'Greece' was the word!"

Oklahoma City-Oklahoma City Repertory Theatre (CityRep), in partnership with Oklahoma City University's TheatreOCU presents one of the oldest and funniest "classic" comedies in civilized history.  LYSISTRATA, by Aristophanes, originally produced in 411 BC, remains one of the most produced comedies in history.  The story of one woman's ingenious plan to end the endless Peloponnesion War by gathering all the women of Greece and swearing them to an oath to withhold sexual favors until the men agree to negotiate an end to the war is as broad and bawdy today as it was for ancient Athenians.  This production is rated R, with adult themes, situations, and language.

Playing the title character is Equity professional guest artist Lydia Mackay.  Ms. Mackay is based in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, where she was named "Best Local Actress" by the Dallas Observer in 2008.  Ms. Mackay has won numerous awards for her work, including the Leon Rabin Best Actress Award for her performance in DAINTY SHAPES AND HAIRY APES, and appeared opposite Lou Diamond Phillips as Joanne Galloway in A FEW GOOD MEN.  Making a cameo appearance will be CityRep Artistic Director Donald Jordan

Adaption of the original material is by local playwright and CityRep Founding Member James Tyra.  Mr. Tyra has appeared on stages across the city, and served as CityRep's dramaturg for our first seven seasons.  For CityRep he has appeared in LAUGHTER ON THE 23rd FLOOR, THE OKLAHOMA CITY PROJECT, OUR TOWN, and THE LARAMIE PROJECT, and co-directed MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS.

Also appearing are Oklahoma City artists Michael Gibbons, Cindy Hanska, Kurt Leftwich and Michelle Swink, and Oklahoma City University student actors Mollie Armour, Daryl Bradford, Lauryn Caruso, Ramie Casebolt, Tyler Clark, Jason Clements, Laura Cooper, Brooke Culbertson, Sofia Esteve, Drew Michael Feldman, Caitlin Garner, Mary-E Godfrey, Kentaly Holloway, Brandon Kreider, Amanda Martinez, Carly McGehee, Nathan Mickle, Sarah Murray, Jess Nicolls, Stephen Ochsner, Tess Salcedo, William Frederick Steuernagel V, Arika Trabona, and Aaron Wertheim

Guest Artist Emily Gray will direct.  Ms. Gray has appeared previously with CityRep as Frosine in THE MISER, and as Myra Arundel in HAY FEVER.  Space Design is by Don Childs, with Final Scene Design by Ben Hall, Jayson Phillips, and Donald Jordan.  Costume Design is by Aaron Patrick Turner, Lighting Design by Tristan Decker, Sound Design by Matthew Gray, and Properties Design by Josh Cain.

LYSISTRATA will play in the Freede Little Theatre at the Civic Center Music Hall at 201 N. Walker in downtown Oklahoma City.  Previews begin on Friday, March 5 at 8:00 pm, with a matinee preview on Saturday, March 6 at 4:00 pm.  The Opening Night is Saturday, March 6 at 8:00 pm, with the final performance on Sunday, March 6 at 2:00 pm.

"THEATER AT ITS FINEST...Absurdly enjoyable!  This gleefully theatrical riff on Hitchcock's film is fast and frothy, performed by a cast of four that seems like a cast of thousands."

"A prehistoric boor and an unhinged hysteric.  Hardly a marriage made in heaven."
Richard Hannay and Victoria Sinclair in THE 39 STEPS

Newly returned to England on the eve of World War I, Richard Hannay's listless London life is about to spiral out of control.  When a neighbor bursts in with a top-secret notebook full of cryptic codes and a frantic story of an impending assassination, unlikely patriot Hannay is soon on the run to save himself and his country.  He bumps into feisty suffragette Victoria Sinclair, and while their fates may be intertwined, their personalities aren't.  But like it or not, they'll together navigate murder, betrayal and near death in order to untangle a plot of national importance, and understand the charms and challenges of human nature.  A bracing and romantic thriller, The 39 Steps is based on the novel by John Buchan.
