If you are directly or indirectly involved in altering a structure in any way, regardless of its age, your project is subject to asbestos regulations. This includes wrecking, razing, leveling, dismantling or moving a structure or component of a structure.

Learn more about local asbestos rules at the May 25 member meeting presentation by Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency.

Members Report Unauthorized Membership Invoices

The American General Contractors Association is in NO WAY AFFILIATED with AGC of America

AGC Members have once again reported receiving unwanted and unsolicited solicitation faxes from the "AMERICAN GENERAL CONSTRUCTION ASSOCIATION" (AGC ASSOCIATION). They are again circulating the Associate Dues Application that we began seeing in November 2010. These faxes have been reported by members across the country and are again causing great confusion.

PLEASE NOTE THAT NEITHER AGC OF AMERICA NOR ANY OF ITS CHAPTERS IS THE SOURCE OF THIS SOLICITATION.

Indeed, neither has any affiliation of any kind with this largely unknown, confusing and persistent organization. To file an FCC complaint specific to this unwanted and unsolicited fax to your home or business, go to
click here or go to http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm and follow the instructions for a junk fax complaint.

In the past, AGC of America has written to this organization, insisting that it cease and desist from any further use of its confusing language. More recently, we have also opened a line of communication with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, which has expressed an interest in investigating whether these solicitations are in violation of federal laws prohibiting mail fraud.

Again, please understand that this is NOT an AGC invoice and you should be careful in responding to the fax and providing money to this inquiry. For an example of these faxes, click
here.

Please contact Cheryl Stewart at (509) 535-0391 with any questions. If you have been a victim of this scam and unknowingly paid dues to this outfit, please let me know as soon as possible. The goal is to persuade the federal investigators that this problem is big enough to deserve their time and attention.

Proposed New Construction General Permit Guaranteed to Change the Way Contractors Manage Stormwater Runoff; Comments Due June 24

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed April 24 a draft revised construction general permit (CGP) to regulate stormwater discharges from active sites where EPA is the permitting authority.

The revised CGP will replace the current 2008 CGP, which is set to expire on June 30.  EPA concurrently proposed to extend the 2008 CGP through January 31, 2012, to give the Agency more time to finalize its proposed draft CGP.  The draft includes significant modifications that would increase the costs, labor, and paperwork burdens and liability for construction site operators tasked with stormwater compliance. States authorized to run their own stormwater permit programs generally follow EPA's lead in adopting enhanced protections. EPA will accept comment on the draft CGP proposal through June 24.

Pizza, Pop and Power Tools Event

Tuesday and Wednesday, May 24th and 25th; 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the Apprenticeship & Journeyman Training Center

This is an awesome event that allows 8th grade girls in our area the opportunity to experience the construction industry in a memorable way.  Hands-on activities they participate in include operating heavy equipment, welding, sawing, operating a nail gun, painting and more!

There are a few spots left each day for women volunteers that will help chaperone the students to each station.

Click here for more information or call Shelly Donovan to volunteer at (509) 252-9207.
