The Status of Our Forces in Iraq

As violence continues to decline in Iraq, regional elections are set for January and disparate political and ethnic forces move closer to political reconciliation, the unfinished Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) between Iraq and the United States looms increasingly large. Members of JINSA's leadership met in September with a senior government official involved in the negotiation, who explained the key points of divergence and efforts to overcome them.

Flag & General Officers Trip
to Israel 2008

The 26th JINSA Flag & General Officers Trip took place in September during a period of political and military flux. The JINSA delegation, consisting of 10 retired American admirals and generals, one professional staff member and four members of JINSA's Board of Directors, traveled widely and met with Israeli civilian, military and intelligence professionals, as well as American Lt. Gen. Keith Dayton, the U.S. Security Coordinator for the Israel-Palestinian Authority. The group contained a diversity of professional experience, bringing depth, pointed questions and excellent observations to the meetings.

JINSA Calls on Congress to Fund Missile Defense Sites in Poland and the Czech Republic

In a mid September press release, JINSA called upon Congress to restore the necessary funding for missile defense sites in Poland and the Czech Republic, noting that U.S. support is critical to defending the West from threats posed by a potentially nuclear-armed Iran armed with ballistic missiles capable of reaching Europe. The funding had been included in the Defense Appropriations bill, but was removed in May by congressional Democrats.

Save the Date for JINSA's Annual Dinner

On Monday, December 8, 2008, JINSA will present Admiral Michael Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, with the Henry M. Jackson Distinguished Service Award.  JINSA will also present The Grateful Nation Award to six young heroes recognized for having distinguished themselves through superior conduct in the War on Terrorism.
