Greetings!
Art Sanctuary's community wide reading program, Reading
in Concert, now in its 8th year, sends University of
Pennsylvania students from author and Professor Lorene Cary's (The Price of a
Child, Black Ice, and Free!)
English class to lead groups at various community centers, public and private
schools in a common text to develop an appreciation of literature, and cultivate
self-awareness. Students work with their chosen location for four-weeks, and
then bring their group to attend a lecture by the selected author or a
performance based on the work of the author.
You are invited to join us on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 for a special concert honoring the work of legendary jazz duo Dwike Mitchell and Willie Ruff featuring Grammy-nominated composer Hannibal Lokumbe and spoken-word artist Toni Blackman.
Space
is limited for the school matinee, so please contact our education
coordinator, Melissa Talley-Palmer to reserve space for your groups.
See you on April 15th!
