Grammy-nominated composer Hannibal Lokumbe's original musical piece for mass choir and jazz band commemorates the life and work of the Church of the Advocate's legendary activist and priest, Father Paul M. Washington. Special honorees include hip-hop recording artists The Roots,who performed at Art Sanctuary's very first event. A hip hop group that's gone from underground to Grammy with integrity, artistry, smart business sense, and style. Guest performers under the direction of conductor, educator, and master-keyboardist J. Donald Dumpson, include Hannibal's-own New York-based quintet, internationally acclaimed bass-baritone Kevin Deas, the Clayton White Singers, Bright Hope Baptist Church's Celestial Choir, and members of The African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas, the Chancel Choir.
