Training4Success for Foreign-Born Women Artists is Back!
March 17-May 19, 2008
Empowered Women International selects talented emerging immigrant and refugee women artists to participate in the ten-week Training4Success, Spring 2008 program, March 17 - May 19, 2008. Classes meet every Monday, March 17-May 19, 2008, 6:30-9 PM at The Art League Duke St, Annex, Alexandria, VA 22314. Learn all about building a successful art career or running your own business in a non-threatening, empowering network of artists and professionals.
The training provides foreign-born, immigrant and refugee women artists with opportunities to engage in a life changing career and business training program, while exploring their artistic and cultural heritage, and engaging in the civic life of their communities.
Classes and resources include portfolio development, marketing and communication techniques, introducing your art to media and writing effective press releases, organizing events, securing space in galleries and arts spaces, funding for your art projects, taxes, legal and financials aspects of running an art business. Artist participants will explore their inner entrepreneurial talents and will strengthen their confidence, business and marketing skills. Artists will end the class with a professional portfolio, a personal marketing plan and will participate in a civic engagement project and graduation ceremony. Graduation Ceremony will take place in June 2008.
Application Deadline: March 1, 2008
Training Fee: 300/person. Make checks payable to EWI and mail them to 1307 King St., Alexandria, VA 22314
Scholarships: Low income artists may be considered for full or partial scholarships. Please let us know of your need.

About the Program: Training4Success was designed and initiated in 2005 by Marga Fripp, an award winning journalist and a native of Romania, the President of Empowered Women International. The concept behind the program was to create economic opportunities and give a voice to artistically talented newcomers and low income immigrant women, who want to pursue careers as artist entrepreneurs, freelancers, community educators or art business owner.
