We have some exciting news to share with you this month!  You may have already received an e-vite to our 5th Anniversary Gala on October 30.  Click the link at left to get your tickets now for a fun evening complete with dinner, raffle & door prizes, bellydancing, African storytelling, EWI artists, and inspiration from our guest of honor Alicia Vincentini.  Alicia, a native of Argentina and  CEO of SSI Business Solutions, will share words about her own path to success as a woman entrepreneur.

I would aBeth Piclso like to take this opportunity to
introduce Beth Haskovec as EWI's Artist
Services Manager. Beth is joining us from
Americans for the Arts, where she worked as
a graduate scholar advocating for arts
education and promoting art and civic
engagement projects.  Prior to her graduate
studies Beth served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Romania and as an AmeriCorps VISTA.  She is committed to public service and community development initiatives in the arts and international affairs.

Artist members Sheryl Gordon, Evelyn Brooks, Jacqueline Kennedy, Mariana Fernandez and Arline Ostolaza are starting a great new initiative to give back to the EWI community.  We are so thankful for the generous spirit of our artists and are excited to see how we can collectively harness our energies to promote and sustain EWI's work.  All artist members and TFS graduates are welcome to get involved with this group, and join us for our first meeting: October 15 at 6:30pm at the gallery!

Sincerely,

Leyla Strotkamp

Artist Sheryl Gordon featured in Maine Gallery

During the 3rd annual Monson Summer Festival, the streets of the small Maine town were filled with artisans and their work.  At one arts and crafts gallery, The Corner House, EWI artist Sheryl Gordon introduced Monson to a new group of her signature ElderFairies collection.

"This particular group is called the ElderFairies of Lake Hebron," Gordon said, "Monson is known because it is the last leg of the Appalachian trail, and Lake Hebron is the lake on the edge of town."

Gordon created the ElderFairies in response to the question of why and how our bodies age.  She took the idea of aged tooth fairies and turned them into ElderFairies, mythical creatures that age our bodies while we sleep.

Two of the drawings she introduced at the festival were "Hikers of the Appalachian Trail" and "Guardian of Slate Quarry," two pieces specifically tied to the town of Monson.  The Corner House, run by Jack and Ruth Dunstan, features handmade baskets, soap, etched glass, leatherwork, and other works by local Maine artists, will exclusively carry the Lake Hebron ElderFairy collection.
