Understanding the ASP Reimbursement Report
Each quarter, SWON prepares and distributes a report on CMS ASP reimbursement. The Q1 2011 report was distributed last week. The report's objective is to provide a straight ASP/ASP+6% reimbursement analysis of Oncology Supply invoice drug cost vs. CMS reimbursement. It is important to note that in addition to the invoice price vs. reimbursement breakdown, practices must calculate the 5% rebate on generics and any available manufacturer rebates when evaluating the net profit or loss on a particular drug.
For example, in the current report, Fusilev Levoleuco (Item #32424) is shown with a loss of $43.44 based on ASP+6% on ZED pricing terms. However, when the manufacturer rebate, available to SWON members, is factored in, the product has an approximate net profit of $9.22. Practices need to consult their particular payment terms and contract level with Oncology Supply/ION when calculating net price.
If you did not receive a copy of the ASP reimbursement report, click here to request a copy. The report will be sent electronically following verification of current SWON membership.
As always, SWON and your Oncology Supply and ION representatives are available for questions on pricing as well. |

Q4 2010 rebates are scheduled to be distributed to eligible practices in mid February. Practices must have been current on all payments to Oncology Supply during the quarter to be eligible for the rebate.
Additionally, all SWON membership forms must be up to date. Forms that needed to be completed were mailed to affected practices in late December along with a report on the rebates paid to your practice during the last fiscal year. Be sure to complete any forms that were mailed to your practice by February 10 so we can mail your rebate out. If you are not sure whether your practice has forms outstanding, click here to request a review. |

Overdosed America: The Broken Promise of Amerian Medicine (P.S.)
By John Abramson (as described on amazon.com)
Using the examples of Vioxx, Celebrex, cholesterol-lowering statin drugs, and anti-depressants, Overdosed America shows that at the heart of the current crisis in American medicine lies the commercialization of medical knowledge itself.
Drawing on his background in statistics, epidemiology, and health policy, John Abramson, M.D., reveals the ways in which the drug companies have misrepresented statistical evidence, misled doctors, and compromised our health. The good news is that the best scientific evidence shows that reclaiming responsibility for your own health is often far more effective than taking the latest blockbuster drug.
You-and your doctor-will be stunned by this unflinching exposé of American medicine.
