Ian Watson Seminars Newsletter
21st December 2007

Greetings!

As the year draws to a close, I'd like to send out a big thank you to all of you who have written, read, listened, attended or consulted during the past twelve months. It means a great deal to me that I feel myself to be part of a growing network of friends and colleagues throughout the world, each of us contributing to the same pool of growing awareness.

Next year, The Healer's Journey returns after a seven-year gap, and promises to be a deeper transformational experience than ever before. There will also be retreats aplenty for those much-needed healing breaks, and some new seminars and workshops to inspire and entertain you. Keep an eye on the website for new additions over the coming weeks.

Hope to see you soon,

Warm wishes,

Ian

  • The Already Knowing

A frequent comment that arises from participants at my seminars and retreats is that I have reminded them of something they already knew. I've learnt to accept this as being complimentary, rather than derogatory feedback, but one can never be entirely sure about these things!

I can remember when I first read Edward Bach's little booklet, Heal Thyself, there was something shining through in what he wrote, which spoke to me, even though the language he used was rather quaint and old fashioned. Reading some of Hahnemann's writings gave me the same feeling, and it was a feeling of recognizing something very familiar. The word recognize is interesting in itself, because it means literally to know again. Which implies that we have known it already, whatever it is, without necessarily being aware of it.

I've come to appreciate that remembrance or recognition is a crucial aspect of any self-healing process - and it is something which goes beyond understanding. It is an opening into a greater awareness, and yet, there is the simultaneous realization that what is being revealed was somehow always known to us. It's that ah-ha moment when something inside clicks into place all by itself, and we have the experience of being a little bit more whole and complete than we were just a few seconds earlier.

For me, this is where healing - which has the same root as the word wholeness - ceases to be the exclusive domain of medicine, and opens up into a far greater field which embraces science and philosophy, nature, music, poetry and all of the arts. Anything that breaks the shell of a lifetime's conditioning and affords a glimpse of the underlying mystery can serve a healing function if we are awake to the possibility.

The great portrait artist Lucian Freud has said that "There is a distinction between fact and truth. Truth has an element of revelation about it. If something is true, it does more than strike one as merely being so."

It may well be that the 'facts' of energy healing do not yet hold up to scientific scrutiny, but the truth of it is something which is being recognized by unprecedented numbers of people.

Just as a great piece of art or music, or a beautiful landscape cannot be explained in any meaningful way, I think that true healing, also, has a mystical aspect from which it draws its potency. It speaks for itself, when allowed to do so, and is always heard by those whose ears are ready to hear.

Barbara in the UK wrote: The timing of your newsletter was quite appropriate. I had been thinking for the past two days about how I differed from my colleagues and why I don't attend seminars or workshops so very often - and I had come to the conclusion that homeopaths are, in the main, an earnest sombre lot, and I find that weighty seriousness quite unsettling.

I feel I've achieved more if the person goes away feeling lighter and unburdened.....Consultations can be a truly warm and ironic experience too!

I've heard the same sentiments echoed by colleagues throughout the world, Barbara. It reminds me of a quote which is never too far from the back of my mind:

'One of the symptoms of an approaching nervous breakdown is the belief that one's work is terribly important.'

    Bertrand Russell

Anita in the U.K. wrote: Thanks for your newsletter, I am always pleased to receive them and they often resonate with what seems to be going on at the moment.

The recent piece about laughter reminds me of my first consultation with you which, I have to say, I was a little nervous about. However, my abiding memory was of much laughter to accompany the tears and afterwards I felt great. So count yourself as one of those great teachers.

Thanks, Anita. Tears and laughter flow from the same source, do they not?
