Lean and Green.
A case study of lean, sustainable manufacturing Journal of Industrial Engineering and Management JIEM, 2010 - 3(1): 11-32 Geoff Miller, Janice Pawloski, Charles Robert Standridge
You've likely
heard of "lean manufacturing." Toyota made it famous with the creation of their
Toyota Production System (TPS) after WWII. Today, variations on that model are used by manufacturers working
to eliminate waste, improve quality and reduce costs. Grand Rapids Chair Company is one such company. Our manufacturing team, lead by Geoff
Miller, VP of Operations, implements lean principles in conjunction with green
manufacturing concepts
-
with the belief that the two have a more significant,
positive impact when implemented concurrently. Geoff and his colleagues at the School of Engineering, Grand
Valley State University, used three case studies of work performed at Grand
Rapids Chair, to support this thinking. An article in the current issue of Journal of Industrial Engineering and Management tells the story. It's a little technical,
but it nicely frames the synergy between lean and green manufacturing.

It's Here... Our Newly Updated Price List
Our
new price list has just been updated. It now includes all new products, previously noted price adjustments and an expanded table section. To
help distinguish the new from the old - there's a new photo on the cover and a new color (light green) incorporated throughout.
This new price list is available for download from our website.
A couple tips for using the electronic version:
Consider saving it to your desktop for easy access. (We'll alert you when a new version becomes available.)
If you haven't tried it - use the "Find" function within Acrobat to locate the information you're interested in. The left/right arrows to the right of the search box allow you to quickly and easily browse through relevant results. (If not already in your toolbar, "Find" can be found under View / Toolbars / Find.)
If you'd like to view the document like a book, with two pages on your screen at one time, select View / Page Display / Two-Up. This is particularly helpful in the Table section where edge options and pricing information goes all the way across the page.
