Unravel Fashion Show

Grand Rapids Chair Company was proud to partner with a team of

design students for the IIDA Mid-America-St. Louis fund raising fashion show entitled "Unravel" at the end of October. The event works to recognize the creativity of design firms and enhance the communication between people in the design community.  And its just an all around good time!

Pieces, parts, and material from our Spiral and Melissa Anne seating lines were used to design a wearable garment that was modeled by the lovely Elizabeth Hablinski, a student in the bachelor's program of Interior Design at Patricia Stevens College in St. Louis.

And in the Hot Seat in Tallahassee

Grand Rapids Chair Company also joined forces with Momentum to sponsor a "Hot Seat Competition" with IIDA and ASID for the Tallahassee, Florida design community. Contestants were invited to take our "Design-it-Yourself" Amanda chair and design their own back. Entries were judged on:

·       Personalization - how the design incorporated the "inspiration" behind the chair

·       Aesthetics - how the design enhanced both the product and the environment for which the product was designed

·       User - how the design supports or benefits the end-customer

·       Production - could the design be produced

The response was great, and in November, an unveiling of the winner took place at a wine & cheese event at the Signature Art Gallery where all entries were on display.

Congratulations to Olivier Chamel, an architect in Tallahassee who won for his "Olive" Chair.

Olive1Olive3

Olivier's design was based on two major concepts: developing a clean and simple esthetic while providing a high level of comfort.

Reminiscent of a cocktail olive (the cushion) set on a table or backdrop (the plywood support), the design is a contrast between orthogonal and round shapes and the textures of cushion and plywood.

Thanks to all who organized and participated in the event.  We had a good time helping bring Olive from sketches to reality.

And remember - you don't need a competition to design your own.  Send us what you want and we'll help make it happen!
