Laser Cutting to Support the Arts
Our hometown of Grand Rapids,
Michigan is a buzz with ArtPrize, an event that has turned a 3 mile
area downtown into a virtual art museum. 1,262 artists representing 16
countries have their work on display in 159 venues both indoors and out. The
event offers the ability for any artist to show their work and for the visiting
public to vote on their favorite. Tens of thousands of people have come to
participate in the event, with 35,685 people registered to vote for the winner
- who will take home the largest art prize in the world of $250,000.
So that's cool, but what does it
have to do with us? A local
artist, Kelly Allen, had a vision for creating an intricate 6 x 8-foot piece
using multiple components with acrylic and oil paint on treated laser cut
steel. She knew of our abilities
to customize our products with laser cutting and asked for our help. Her design
was so complex it kept crashing our computers, but we developed a special process to
handle data coming directly from her software to get the job done.
Moral of the story: At Grand Rapids Chair, we're always up
for the challenge. Tell us your
vision and we'll do our best to make it a reality.
P.S. Kelly's piece ranked in the top
100. Congratulations, Kelly!
