ePEP:  ELECTRONIC PERSONAL EDUCATION                         PLANNER

The website for accessing the ePEP is FACTS.org.  There is a quick link posted on our Landrum Website

All seventh graders are taking the semester long class called Computer Logic.  During the course, they begin planning their high school courses through ePEP.
All eighth graders have been attending the computer lab to also set up their ePEP and learn how to plan on this state mandated tool.  If you have any questions about this process at school, please contact Liza White at 547-8418.
Please visit the FACTS.org site and peruse the useful information.

"Frequently asked questions:
Why does FACTS.org require my child's social security number?
School districts in the state of Florida report transcript data to the Department of Education using the Social Security Number or, for those who do not have a SSN, the 10 digit Florida Student Identifier number.  (These students must obtain and enter a Social Security Number to apply to postsecondary institutions and for financial aid, including Bright Futures)
By requiring the SSN, the only personal identifying number that is never duplicated, FACTS.org is able to ensure that transcript information is released only to the correct individual.  Once a student has created an account they will not have to enter this information again and when it appears in the settings the first five digits of the SSN will appear as asterisks only.
FACTS.org is committed to the protection of students.  The site has many levels of security,.  Additional information on these features may be found by going to the FACTS.org home page, and clicking on "privacy policy" at the bottom of the page."

Mark Your Calendar!  Battle of the Big Cats is scheduled for March 6, 2009.  Information on the PTO's biggest fundraiser of the year will be coming home in the backpacks and is posted on the website.  We need your help to make this event a success.  Homeroom Liaisons will be sending information home on class baskets which will be a major part of the event this year.  Whether you give a little or a lot, every bit helps in raising money for the school.  With budget cuts looming, your help and participation is even more vital.

Attention 8th Grade Parents
Get involved in the PVHS PTO--we are looking for 2-3 people who would be willing to chair our Feeding Frenzy Yard Sale next Fall.  Planning begins now for this fun event.  Our PTO is an integral part of the school--be part of it!  Contact Nan Healy at nangary@aol.com or 273-8920 if you are interested in finding out more information.  Also consider being part of the PTO board or other committees!

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
FROM MR. KING
Firstly, to thank the parents for attending the Parent Assistant evening.  We are a pilot school for this program and feel it can be an important tool in the communication process.  If you were unable to attend please link to our webpage for information.

We have also posted our Needs Assessment on-line in the hope that all families will take a few minutes to give us feedback.  Our SAC worked hard on the survey and we use the data to plan for the upcoming year.

As we move forward in the budget process I'd also like to invite you to hear Dr.Joyner speak at Landrum.  He'll address some budget concerns on February 17th @ 8:15am.  Please plan on attending.

We have many reasons to celebrate since our last publication.  Sherri Anthony will represent Landrum at the Teacher of the Year banquet later this month.  She is one of the three finalist and we are so proud of her.  Our students have also been impressive this month.  Caroline Snowden won the District Spelling Bee and will now move to the Regional Competition. I also wanted to recognize Megan Meeke, R.J. Garcia, Anna Wheeler and Haley Cox as winners in the Dr. King Essay Contest.  The essays are an excellent example of the quality of work our students continue to produce.
