The Phoenix Pride Parade is on Saturday, April 17th, and PFLAG Phoenix has all-new"PFLAG Pride" shirts that are guaranteed to make us the envy of all the parade-watchers!  TV Alert: CNN to Air Her Name Was Steven This Weekend CNN will air the documentary Her Name Was Steven this weekend, March 13 and 14, at 6 p.m. and again at 9 p.m. local Arizona time.
It tells the story of Steven Stanton, a former Largo, Fla., city manager whose world came crashing down when a local reporter called to confirm a tip she'd received that Stanton had been cross-dressing and researching gender reassignment. CNN followed Stanton for more than two years for this project.
Stanton's career came to a halt when it was revealed he was in the process of transitioning. The film follows Stanton from the press conference that ended this career through the emotional months that followed, including interviews with Stanton's wife, son, and coworkers. |
 PFLAG Guest Speaker: Ernesto Ortiz, the new Executive Director of the One Voice Community Center We are very excited to announce that Ernesto Ortiz, the new Executive Director of the One Voice Community Center (and member of our PFLAG Phoenix Familias del Arco Iris Board), will be our special guest speaker on Monday, March 15th at our central Phoenix support meeting. (Our previously scheduled guest speaker, Phoenix Councilman Tom Simplot, will be rescheduled for another date.)
The One Voice Community Center has grown into an incredible community organization, and Ernesto will inform us of its many programs and offereings, plus tell us his plans for the future growth of the Center. Ernesto will also share his personal story with us, and we hope his mother will join him for that part of the discussion. So, come meet Ernesto and learn much about this new vital resource in our community. |
 Looking for Pride Festival Booth Volunteers! PFLAG Phoenix is looking for volunteers to help staff our Phoenix Pride Festival booth. Help us hand out PFLAG literature, talk with interested community members about PFLAG, and help us sell PFLAG t-shirts, polo shirts, and automobile decals to help raise funds for PFLAG Phoenix. Best of all, volunteering for a 2-hour shift will get you in free to the Festval (i.e., a savings of $20.00!). That, plus spending quality time with outer PFLAGers, well, you just can't beat it!
