We are looking for a Spanish-speaking parent who is supportive of their gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender child for a brief (1-and-a-half minute) interview on Univision Channel 33 in Phoenix on Thursday, October 8th. We will need you to be available from 4:30pm - 5:30pm. Dave Pape, our former chapter president, would be present and possibly interviewed along side of you. If you are a supportive Spanish-Speaking parent who could help us with this interview, please contact Dave Pape at (602) 882-2217 or via email.
So, what's this all about? Glad you asked . . . .
Univision Channel 33 in Phoenix and Human Rights Campaign Arizona will collaborate to produce and air Univision 33 a Su Lado- Dia para salir del closet (Coming Out Day). 3 stories (ranging approximately 1 minute 30 seconds in length) will run each night during October 5th through October 7th. Each story will run on both 5pm and 10pm newscasts. The stories will profile individuals within the Latino/LGBT community and their coming out stories (1 man, 1 woman, and 1 parent). The stories will also highlight organizations that provide LGBT resources. Issues addressed will focus on and will be catered to Latino individuals and families who are dealing with the challenge from coming out.
On October 8th HRCAZ and Univision will host a phone bank from approximately 5:00 pm-10:30 pm in relation to the stories aired during the week. There will be 10 live "cut-ins" throughout that time. Each cut-in will focus on a different "coming out" issue and/or resource. The objective of the phone bank will be to provide resources for individuals with questions regarding "coming out."
Note: The entire program will be in Spanish. All resources and individuals mentioned must speak Spanish.
