THE NEW YEAR BRINGS NEW CHANGES TO PFLAG PHOENIX
The beginning of 2009 brings with it some important changes at PFLAG Phoenix -- some happy and some sad.
First, we're saddened to see the departures of several of our chapter officers whose volunteer terms officially ended on December 31st. Chapter president Dave Pape, Vice President Charlotte Adcock, and Secretary Phil Calderon each served our chapter with distinction, and we thank them each for their dedication and service to PFLAG Phoenix. Hopefully, they each can enjoy some long-deserved relaxing downtime in their new PFLAG "retirements." We are thrilled that Dean Jensen is staying on as chapter treasurer for another year. Of course, PFLAG Phoenix is in need of new chapter leadership, and we are hoping some "new blood" and "fresh eyes" will come and get involved in our important work. If you are interested in getting involved and/or possibly taking on a leadership role, please contact us!
Next, we are very excited about our move back to the city of Phoenix. After nearly a decade of holding "central" support meetings in Paradise Valley, we are relocating that "central" group to the heart of Phoenix's GLBT community. Please join us Monday, January 19th at 7:00pm as we kick off our new Phoenix support group at First Congregational United Church of Christ (located on the northeast corner of 2nd Street and Willetta (1/2 block south of McDowell Road)). We hope that the GLBT community will come get to know us there, and that parents, friends, and allies will also come to share and show their support as well.
Another change for 2009 includes the discontinuance of our mailed monthly paper newsletter. But don't fret -- the "electronic" version of our chapter newsletter is always available online (24/7) and is emailed monthly to everyone on our chapter email list. (Note: There is no newsletter for January as our December/January issue covers both months.)
Speaking of our chapter email list, we've expanded our list of email "interest categories" so that you can better pick-and-choose the information you receive from us. In addition to our "main list" (for ALL email subscribers) and "calendar" categories, we've just added a separate "news" category. We'll use the "news" category to send out "local, national, and international news and views" of interest to PFLAG Phoenix members and supporters. These will be sent separately from messages sent to the other two categories. All current email subscribers are automatically subscribed to this new "interest category" -- for anyone who wishes to unsubscribe from that category, simply click on the "Update Profile/Email Address" link at the bottom of this email message to update your "interest categories."
2009 also brings with it the inauguration of President-Elect Barrack Obama who has an increbible "gay agenda" of his own which he promises to implement. Couple that with the expected departure of Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano and the resulting ascention of Jan Brewer as Arizona's next governor, and 2009 is sure to be a year of news for Arizona's GLBT community. Stay tuned . . . and come OUT and get involved with us as 2009 gets underway!
Wishing you all a very happy, healthy, and prosperous 2009 . . . . |
