"The next Buddha may not take the form of an individual. In the twenty-first century, the Sangha (community) may be the body of the Buddha."
Thich Nhat Hanh

In two weeks we will be gathering as a tribe to raise funds to upgrade our speakers at Flex-it Gym and to establish a scholarship fund for those who wish to study the 5Rhythms in depth and need financial assistance to do so.  What makes this so special is that we are working together to make this happen.  We've been together as a dancing tribe for almost eight years now and it's exciting to see us coming together to make a difference.

A committee of seven of us have been at the hub organizing while another 40-50 of our tribe have been offering services, donating time and items to the silent auction, and offering their time at the benefit event to make this all happen.  The Tribal Directory (click to download the pdf file) is a listing of people who have offered to donate a portion of their business during the month of June to our fund raising drive.

The Sweat Your Prayers Benefit and Silent Auction will be held on June 13th at the Odd Fellows Hall in Redwood City.  This event features
live music with the Tandamanzi Rhythm Ensemble, a silent auction, a finger food & dessert potluck and a great opportunity to get to know each other off the dance floor. The doors open at 6:30 with music and dancing until 9 PM, followed by food, tea, the closing of the silent auction and some social time together.  Please invite your friends and bring your family along. There's more detail below.

All funds donated for this effort are tax-deductible and will be administered by DanceArt, Inc. If you would like to make a tax deductible donation, you can write your check to DanceArt, Inc. (note in the memo line that it's for the Endless Waves Speaker & Scholarship Fund) and either bring it with you on the 13th, drop it off at a Monday class or send it to Ecstatic Productions at 2050 Santa Cruz Ave., Menlo Park, CA 94025.  Upon request, we will provide you with a letter of acknowledgement of your donation to be used for your taxes.

There is a tremendous amount of work that goes into organizing an event like this and we would love your help.  If you would like to offer some of your time before, during or after this event to help with set-up, the silent auction, or clean-up, please contact Chuck White (cw@chuckwhite.com) to get your name on the list or sign up on Monday night at class.

Libido 101 w/Andrea Juhan

Back by popular demand . . . Libido 101 will be offered again this year on August 22nd-24th in Redwood City.  Over ninety people participated last year in this amazing workshop and we're delighted to be offering it 2008.   I remember the energy and depth that was infused into our dancing tribe from our experience together last year and am looking forward to another boost of that incredible creative spark.  This year's workshop will be limited to 70 participants, so be sure to register early to reserve your spot.

I have been working with Andrea for many years and am continually astounded at the depth, clarity, vulnerability and courageousness she brings to the dance floor.  Please don't hesitate to talk to me about this work if you have any questions.

In addition to offering Libido 101 in August, Ecstatic Productions will be hosting a Libido Ongoing Group starting in the Spring of 2009.  This group will meet five times (four days each session) over the next two years.  Libido 101 is a pre-requisite for the ongoing group.

Keep on scrolling for more details on the upcoming summer of 5Rhythms events.

Until we dance,

Lori

Odd Fellows Hall    Redwood City, CA

Our generative, sexual energy - our Libido - is an essential part of our body's natural expression. As our hearts and bodies awaken through the 5Rhythms® movement practice, our sexual energy also begins to stir. On the dance floor, we may feel juicy, radiant, and desirable one moment and feel guilty, awkward, and shy in the next. We may feel overwhelmed by our own experience - or by the sexual energies around us - or feel flat, disconnected, and just plain left out.

Libido 101 uses the 5Rhythms® practice as a means to ground, explore, and relate to the full spectrum of our sexual energy.  By turning our embodied awareness toward the essential instinctive energy that runs through all of our bodies, we can learn to tolerate, express, and enjoy this energy - whether subtle or intense - in ourselves and in others. As we re-member ourselves as sexual, sensual, creative beings, we can begin to experience our sexual energy as a source of healing, connection, power, and creativity - a joyful, integrated part of our adult human experience.
