Food for Thought...

Greetings!

Welcome Friends & Supporters!

Friday, November 11th, is Veteran's Day.  It's a moment to take stock of who we are as we look at the example of our veteran's - those who have offered their lives as a gift for others.  We value our freedoms in the USA, but we often forget that freedom comes with a sacrifice - all too often the sacrifice of a few for the sake of many.  Veterans remind us that without a cost, there is no freedom, and while we celebrate them - those whose lives were lost or forever changed because of their service.  Veteran's Day, more than any holiday, is a time to reflect on the quality of life we share as a community, to remember the price, to appreciate our veterans, and to model in some important way in our own lives choice that veterans have made - to live for others, deserving or not.

3rd Annual Munchkin March

What started with 25, grew to 100 and now 250 tiny tots hit the streets of San Luis Obispo on Thursday, October 27th for the 3rd annual Munchkin March. The event was hosted by the Mindful Mothers who's mission is to teach little ones the importance of giving back and volunteering. The goal of the march is to raise food and funds for the Food Bank. The group met at the SLO Children's Museum and paraded to Emerson Park where they celebrated with a picture booth, pizza and raffle prizes. This year the group raised $748 and 380 lbs of food.

PG&E Lights the Fight Against Hunger

PG&E

The Food Bank was a recipient of a PG&E grant to improve our energy efficiency. The donation of $10,000 was used to upgrade our overhead lighting and refrigeration system. We celebrated the upgrades on Friday, November 4th with a ribbon cutting ceremony, where we were joined by the Ambassadors of the Paso Robles Chamber of Commerce, PG&E and Hans Poschman, District Director of Senator Blakelee's Office. The recent upgrade to energy efficient lighting will result in approximately $1,051 in annual savings, equal to 10,510 pounds of food or 7,357 additional meals. After the ceremony a contingent of PG&E volunteers helped sort food from a recent military donation.
