Meeting Highlights - July 16
Board discusses proposed new special education student information system Due to limitations with the current special education student system, the district is proposing the purchase of new service called eSped. This student information system was selected after conducting a thorough process that included surveying area districts' systems, discussions with multiple service providers, and various product demonstrations. The eSped service offers improvements such as integration with main student information system, web-based access, data validation, archiving, ease-of-use, integration of data to generate reports, data queries, the ability to import documents, live and online support, encryption of emails, regular updates to comply with state and federal regulations, electronic signatures, and parent/teacher portals. If the Board approves the eSped purchase in the amount of $23,900 (for year one implementation, $11,000 annually thereafter), the system would go live on August 15, 2012. Read more Board reviews four policies The Board often revises and adds policies and procedures in order to maintain compliance with state and federal regulations. The following four policies were reviewed at the meeting: 3030: Management Appraisal - Changes in legislation since 2010 now require the use of an approved evaluation instrument and guidelines developed by the ISBE for the proper evaluation of principals. This is intended to ensure that district efforts are compliant with State Code. 6432: Voluntary Termination Benefits for Educational Support Personnel Retiring Under IMRF -The most significant change is that IMRF employees may choose to have the Board contribute the value of up to 10 days of unused vacation days to the Glenbrook VEBA Health Savings Plan instead of being paid directly at their per diem rate. 8050: Attendance for State Aid Purposes -Although districts are required to submit statistics for the calculation of state aid each year, they no longer are required to have such a policy. The recommendation is to remove Policy 8050 entirely from the current set of district policies. 8280: Student Records - This policy incorporates five significant pieces of legislation that each contribute to the rules governing the handling of student records. The revisions are easier to understand, provide clarity for those who are responsible for maintaining student records and bring the district into compliance. |
