The Board recognized GBN senior Jordan Cotler for being named a national finalist in the 71st annual Science Talent Search.

Intel Corporation and Society for Science and the Public named Cotler as one of only 40 students from across the country as a finalist, just days after proclaiming him one of 300 semifinalists.

Cotler was judged on his original scientific research project titled "A Relativistic Orthogonal State Quantum Key Distribution for Secure Satellite Communication," and his achievements and leadership, both inside and outside of the classroom. As part of his recognition, he was awarded $1,000 for himself, and $1,000 for Glenbrook North, which is designated to support continued excellence in science, math and engineering education. In addition, Cotler will travel to Washington D.C. this March to compete for $630,000 in awards, including the top prize of $100,000.

According to the Intel Corporation, "The finalists represent the nation's most promising high school seniors with the greatest potential to solve pressing challenges in the world."
