Board recognizes gifted musicians from GBN and GBS

The Board recognized student musicians from both GBN and GBS who were recently selected as finalists by the Illinois Music Educator's Association (IMEA).  

IMEA 2012 

GBN Students:

Band: Robert Blumstein, Morgen Low; Orchestra: Cordelia Brand, Harriet Han, Stella Tu; Chorus: Rebecca Elowe, Aaron Kohrs, Brandon Nadig, Megan Orticelli, Nathan Salstone; Jazz Band:  Daniel Gordon, Jared Hochberg.

 

GBS Students:

Orchestra: Daniel Ahn, Joo Hee Lee, Soyoon Park, Isabelle Uhl; Chorus: Murray Campbell, Kris Hansen, Tim Kirby, Katherine Loiselle, Ryan Tarpey, Merrick Topping; Jazz Band: Dan Chmielinski; Vocal Jazz: Josh Olsen.

 

The IMEA All-State Festival will take place in Peoria from January 25-28.

Student transportation fees remain consistent

Due to the current economy, the district will not increase student transportation fees for the 2012-13 school year.  In addition, it will continue to offer families a 50-percent sibling bus rider discount.  The district will also offer a $25 discount for those families who register online. 

 

"We know our families are impacted by the economy and so we do the best we can to keep costs low while still being fiscally responsible to our taxpayers," said Assistant Superintendent of Business Affairs Hillarie Siena.

 

This is the fourth consecutive year that the district has not raised student transportation fees. 

 

Board communication with public

The Board discussed the parameters for responding to community inquiries received through the Board of Education email.  After listening to the opinions of the Board, the administration plans to draft guidelines for this type of communication.
