Four students, one camera, one shot: The making of the GBS Lip Dub
When Glenbrook South students Connor Smith, Kevin Mathein, John Paul O'Rourke and Olivia Kane learned of their school's plan to make a lip dub video, they had no idea just how large of a production it would become.

From high school mascot Tommy the Titan riding in on a white horse, to underwater filming, golf carts riding down the hallways and a helicopter overlooking the football field, the 12 minute snapshot of
more than 2,650 students quickly turned into an Internet sensation.

Meet the group of students behind the incredible video that easily solidified a place in Glenbrook South history.

An idea transformed
It wasn't long after
Homecoming when Assistant Principal for Student Activities Jim Shellard mentioned he wanted to do a lip dub, which is a type of music video that combines lip synching and audio dubbing . It is commonly done using a single shot with little editing.

"The main structure was to incorporate as many people as possible - all the clubs, all the activities," Smith said.

With Shellard gaining the support of the staff and administration, the group got to work. Smith would serve as director, Mathein the co-producer, O'Rourke on camera and Kane as production assistant.

The biggest challenge seemed obvious from the start: how could they navigate through the school, filming more than 2,650 students, in 12 minutes?

Instructional norms employed to maximize learning

Instructional Norms, a set of five teaching guidelines intended to increase student learning, are to be implemented in classrooms as part of a three year goal led by GBS administration, Instructional Supervisors and Instructional Coaches.

According to Muir, during each late arrival, he and his colleagues participate in Professional Learning Mornings where teachers reinforce the most effective instructional strategies.
