Kiddush Sponsors
Following services each morning will be a kiddush, approximately at 12:30 PM on Thursday and Friday, and at 11:30/45 AM on Shabbat.

The kiddush on the first day of Rosh Hashana (Thursday) is sponsored by Scott and Heidi Lawrence - in honor of their son Simcha's 18th birthday -- and Alan and Leya Lurie -- in honor of Alan's birthday.

The kiddush on the second day (Friday) is sponsored by Harvey and Judy Kasdan and Harold and Evrea Bergstein, both as a means to wish Shir Hadash and all Am Yisrael a Happy and Healthy New Year.

The kiddush on Shabbat is an extended kiddush - and will include rolls on which to wash and kove'a seuda (to treat as one's Shabbat lunch if so desired).  This kiddush is sponsored by the shul.

Shabbat Shuva Drasha

In lieu of the regular drasha this Shabbat, Rabbi Gedaliah Gurfein will offer an extended Shabbat Shuva drasha at the completion of morning dovening, at approximately 10:45 AM.  Following this drasha all are invited for kiddush.

Rosh Hashana Seat Selection

Seating for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kipur is fully booked.  This means that only those people who have previously reserved seats (by returning membership forms and payment) should enter the prayer hall on Rosh Hashana.  Shabbat Shuva is like all Shabbatot and open to all.  We wish, of course, we could welcome others as well to Rosh Hashana/Yom Kipur, but due to safety considerations and the limited space of the hall, it is impossible this year to do so.

If you have already reserved seats, you may pick out a specific location for these seats by visiting Shir Hadash Wednesday morning from 9:15-10:30 AM (not before and not after).  If you do not select a specific location at this time, your space is still reserved and you have no need to worry about finding a seat on Rosh Hashana.

Evuv Tavshilin

One is not permitted to prepare foods on Yom Tov for Shabbat unless an Eruv Tavshilin has been made.

It is the function of the Eruv Tavshilin to indicate that the preparation for Shabbat actually began
before Yom Tov commenced. Food is set aside before the holiday begins and then eaten on Shabbat (preferably for Seudah Shlishit).

This ritual of Eruv Tavshilin is performed on Erev Yom Tov, Wednesday, before Yom Tov begins. Take a matzah (or any baked food) with a cooked food (such as an egg, a piece of chicken, or fish) and set it aside to be eaten on Shabbat. While setting it aside, recite the Bracha as it appears in all sidurim, followed by the following declaration:
"With this Eruv, it will be permitted for us to bake, cook, broil, preserve warmth, light candles, and do all necessary things on Yom Tov for Shabbat."
Tashlich
Thanks to Miriam Braun, Tashlich this year will take place Thursday afternoon at 5:30 PM in her fish pond equipped courtyard on Hezkiyahu Hamelech Street at the corner of Rebbe Zeira Street (next to the Pharmacy).  Following Tashlich we will walk up Bilu for Mincha at Shir Hadash by 6:15 PM.  [Please do not bring bread to feed the fish; this year, our 'sins' will be represented by specialized fish food.]
