Power Plant Update

We asked, you responded and San Diego Planning Commission listened. On June 28, the Commission voted 3 - 2 DENYING the zoning changes to accommodate a dirty energy power plant next to Mission Trails Park. Our work continues -- the Planning Commission will meet again and four votes are needed to reach a final verdict. We'll keep you updated on our progress.

Support Parks and Wildlife in Chula Vista

Send a letter today asking the Coastal Commission to ensure a green and healthy Chula Vista Bayfront.
It's true--we want you to support a coastal development plan.

EHC strongly supports the adoption of the Chula Vista Bayfront Master Plan, and we are asking you to tell the Coastal Commission that you do, too.

After ten years and over 100 public meetings, the plan provides:
  • more than 80 acres of parks and 75 acres of usable open spaces,
  • almost 70 acres of wildlife habitat buffer and restoration areas,
  • high-rise development away from wetlands,
  • requirements for high levels of energy efficiency and clean, renewable energy,
  • cleanup of contaminated land, and
  • mandatory public participation in future planning and management of the area.
This plan is our best chance to protect the bayfront we love.

If the Coastal Commission fails to approve this plan, the consequences could be dire for local wildlife and nearby communities that will lose significant public access.

Please show support for this plan at our public presentation to the Coastal Commission on July 11 at 8:30 a.m. at Chula Vista Council Chambers at 276 Fourth Avenue in Chula Vista.

Then send a letter today to support the Master Plan and the Bayfront Coalition Settlement Agreement.

PLEASE SEND LETTERS BY MAIL OR FAX TO:

Chair Mary Shallenberger and Coastal Commissioners
ATTN:  Diana Lilly
California Coastal Commission
San Diego District
7575 Metropolitan Drive, Suite 103
San Diego, CA 92119
Or fax to (619) 767-2384

Letters to Commissioners should be sent in by July 18, 2012. It is most effective to mail or fax in your letter.  We have attached a sample support letter. Please feel free to personalize it.
