Regional Board Orders Cleanup for San Diego Bay
20 year effort finally successful
Congratulations to everyone who made this victory a reality.
For nearly two decades, EHC dedicated ourselves to stand toe-to-toe against giants. This major victory requires those polluters to correct the harm they've caused to our community and the fishermen that depend on the bay to feed their families. EHC congratulates the Regional Board for issuing the order and Coastkeeper for their persistence and partnership in the struggle.
Today we win.
San Diego Bay is listed under the federal Clean Water Act for 20 separate pollutants including copper, mercury, PAHs, PCBs, zinc, and chlordane Today's decision means that 143,400 cubic yards of toxic sediments will be removed from the bottom of San Diego Bay.
This means the bay has a chance of becoming healthy again.
Please join us on May 22 to celebrate this huge environmental win for our community. Please email Brandon to join the event as a sponsor.
