Greetings!

It's been 6 weeks and I'm excited to report that Funk Facial Plastic Surgery has opened in grand style! Decorating the office has been such a wonderful and creative experience.  I look forward to giving you the grand tour if I haven't already!
In addition to getting the new office up and running, I've been busy training many dermatologists and physicians' offices in Dysport (the new Botox) and Restylane (filler) injections.  I love teaching and this has allowed me to share my enthusiasm and knowledge for cosmetic injectables with my colleagues!
This newsletter will not just inform you of events that are happening at Funk Facial Plastic Surgery, but will provide valuable information on the latest trends in facial plastic surgery and skin care.  I think you will find the content to be quite educational and provide a guide for which cosmetic treatment is best for you!

 Botox Makes You Happy!?

botox1gif botox

A recent study by the Department of Psychology at Columbia University demonstrated that patients who received Botox injections for their frown lines exhibited less negative emotional experiences.  It actually makes sense!  Just as any other muscles do when contracted, the facial muscles will send feedback to the brain not only letting the brain know they are contracting, but also sending signals to the emotional center of the brain telling it, "I'm frowning because I am upset!".  By preventing or weakening these "frown" muscles, the emotional center of the brain can receive less of these negative emotions and more positive stimulation making you happy!

New Device for Deviated Septum
base view
I recently was invited to New York to participate on an advisory board of 20 rhinoplasty surgeons from around the country to discuss and test a new product for deviated septums and rhinoplasty.  The PDS Plate, made by Mentor, is composed of absorbable material that  we frequently use in sutures (stitches).  It is used to stabilize a deviated septum or as a bridge for cartilage grafts in rhinoplasty.  I have already used it on a number of patients and have found great success thus far.  More to come on this new device!
