Greetings!
Welcome to the latest e-newsletter from Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven! Our goal is to keep you up to date on recent events and developments that may be of interest to you. If you are receiving this newsletter, you are part of the NHS community: a partnership of organizations and individuals who are committed to community stabilization and the revitalization of selected neighborhoods in the City. We welcome feedback from all of our readers and feel strongly that by working together, we can make a difference!
Despite the threat of another snowstorm on April 1 (must have been an April Fools' Day event!), snow drops, crocuses and some daffodils have started to color the New Haven landscape. We really hope that by the time you read this newsletter, temperatures will rise at least into the low to mid 50s! On April 30 we expect to have a picture-perfect spring day to celebrate our second annual community Multicultural Arts Festival at our campus. Please join us and bring your family and friends for the day-we have planned a wonderful array of activities.

Meet Camila Ruiz and Read About Why She Is Smiling Now

Camila fell behind on her monthly mortgage payments after a job-related accident forced her to leave work. She received worker's compensation but was short 40% of her usual monthly income to cover all her expenses and her house payment. Within six months she faced foreclosure.
Feeling like she had no way out, Camila was living with high stress and was constantly worried. She needed help, called NHS and attended the foreclosure intervention orientation. After her first appointment with her foreclosure counseling, Camila was hopeful. Her lender approved an affordable mortgage modification and she developed a manageable and realistic monthly budget with her counselor.
Now she and her family are able to stay in their home and she is catching up with the rest of her bills. She sleeps at night, eats better and all but reduced the stress produced by this ordeal. And Camila thanks her NHS counselor for the dedicated efforts in obtaining a successful resolution to her problem.
We at NHS are simply doing what we do every day - helping homeowners navigate the complicated and often daunting process of applying for a loan modification.
