The Youth Leadership Program is brought to you by the Neighborhood Revitalization Institute which organized the first Resident Leadership Program last spring. Entertainer to Speak at NHS Youth Leadership Program

In the midst of his 2011 Legacy of Dreams Tour, the speaker, poet, and entertainer Frank E. Brady is taking time out to continue his involvement in the New Haven community. NHS will start off the Youth Leadership Program with a bang through the engaging and dynamic personality of our first YLP speaker on March 7^th. The goals of Brady's seminar will help youth work on projects through healthy team management while acknowledging aspects of competition and accountability. Home Improvement and Energy Conservation Lab

A Model for Green Business

Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven's state-of-the-art Home Improvement and Energy Conservation Laboratory is the center for our post-purchase homebuyer education programming. The Lab was recently honored with a Connecticut Green Business Award from Business New Haven. Selected because of its cutting edge design and energy efficient features, the Lab is the only one of its kind in Connecticut. It includes a cool roof coating with green plants; a storm water management system; solar panels; and controllable tubular skylights. Most of the building materials were recycled from other demolitions and donated by local contractors. The Lab's most unique element is the co-generation system that "is able to heat three buildings for the cost equal to one building using conventional methods." The Lab, which houses the Rehab Department at NHS, is also the recipient of Connecticut Green Building Council's "Most Intriguing Commercial Building Award" in 2009.

We are pleased to offer classes to the public about energy efficiency resources that are available in the Greater New Haven area for low-income residents. The next one will take place on April 14^th at 5:30-7:30pm. You can find a full listing of our classes here.
