2011 RESOLUTIONS

"A vision without the ability to execute is a hallucination."

- Steve Case, former AOL CEO

Nonprofit organizations, businesses giving back to the community, and caring individuals share a common value - to provide opportunities that improve the quality of life for their select constituency.

Those of us in the nonprofit profession wish we would someday 'work ourselves out of a job' but unfortunately, that will never happen.  As 2010 comes to a close, take a few minutes to reflect on your mission impact this past year.  The needs are great but the resources are limited.  That's why it is so important to truly know ourselves and where we are starting from - our core values, our strengths and challenges.

"I've learned that it takes as much time and energy

to wish as it does to plan." Age 49

- Live & Learn & Pass It On by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

As we look to 2011, what are your goals?  Why is your work important to the community?  What opportunities do you want to seize?  What resources are needed to make those opportunities a reality?  Who needs to be 'on board' to enable you to reach your destination?

"Remember that planning is of no value

unless the plans are enacted."

- Life's Little Instruction Calendar

How will you know if you are successful?  What are the benchmarks?  With everything coming at you, how do you keep on track?

KMAC and Associates' S.C.O.R.ÛE.™ program can help you define and address your

S  trengths

C  hallenges

O  pportunities and

E  ffective efforts that identify, build and strengthen philanthropic relationships.

The ONE resolution I am making for 2011 is to be authentic and strategic in identifying, building and strengthening relationships with those who share my core values for a better community.  Please join me!

Sincerely,

"The S.C.O.R.óE.™ process has given us a pathway,  leading us to where we want to be." - David Phipps, Executive Director, SACDC

SACDC Philanthropy Day

In 1986, a group of men and women realized there was a need to help those less fortunate obtain vital dental care. With one dental chair, and a small team of volunteers, the mission of San Antonio Christian Dental Clinic (SACDC) was born.

Nearly 25 years later, the facility has been transformed, but thanks to a corps of volunteers - many of whom have been with the clinic for 15 years or more - the mission to serve remains the same.

"Dental care is the kind of thing people put off," said David Phipps, Executive Director of SACDC. "And when they do, people suffer."

Rose Maldonado, San Antonio Christian Dental Clinic Administrator, echoes the importance of SACDC's mission. "We rehabilitate more than just their teeth, we give the patient back his self-esteem," Maldonado said. "In many cases, simply by boosting their self-esteem, these individuals become employable and therefore productive citizens, reducing the amount of tax dollars the city uses."

When SACDC became one of the first tenants at Haven for Hope in March 2009, Phipps realized with the change in address, there had to be a change in momentum. "There was a crosspoint where we had to decide ...read more

Kathy's Commentary:  S.C.O.R.óE.™: What Can It Do For You?

"I'm a big believer in teaching a man to fish. S.C.O.R.óE.™ is about teaching an organization how to build relationships and being strategic in doing that."

Admit it. Sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day.

Between meetings, budget planning, events, fundraising, grant writing, team building - the list goes on and on -  the term "multi-tasking" doesn't seem to do your day justice.

For nonprofit organizations, that's never been more true, especially in a time when resources are limited, even as the needs of our community have increased dramatically.

In many cases, the development staff, or the executive director wearing the fund development "hat", is stretched very thin. I know nonprofit organizations need guidance, nurturing and strategic thinking to enhance their missions and achieve their goals; that's why I started KMAC & Associates. In creating my S.C.O.R.óE.™ development process, I wanted to help nonprofits build and strengthen those key donor relationships. S.C.O.R.óE.™ delves into an organization's strengths, challenges, opportunities, required resources and effective efforts, teaching the leaders, volunteers and other stakeholders of a group how...read more
