Greetings!
Welcome to the first issue of KMAC & Associates' newsletter. Over the last few years, our business has evolved and grown. We provide philanthropic consulting and coaching services to a variety of clients including nonprofit organizations and for-profit businesses. Our objective is to help them understand the importance, and value the power, of pooling resources for the good of our communities.
Whether you have known me since before I began working professionally in the nonprofit community more than 21 years ago, or met me recently, you probably sense that I believe 'Service is the rent we pay for our space on earth.' I suspect we share similar goals and challenges - to make our community a better place and to help those with fewer resources.
In upcoming issues, our newsletter will feature stories of relationship-building opportunities, celebrate the successful lessons learned, and recommend solutions to the day-to-day and long-term challenges of nonprofit development. We will explore alternatives to replace the old special events habit with donor-centered win-win partnerships that enable nonprofits and the caring community to implement their mission with maximum impact.
We look forward to communicating with you on a regular basis. Please send us your stories, challenges and ideas for inclusion in future newsletters.
Sincerely,
Kathy MacNaughton, CFRE KMAC & Associates |
"Special Event" ? OR "Relationship-Building Activity"? |
I am on a one-woman campaign to eliminate the phrase "special event" from the nonprofit vocabulary. Bet you never thought you would hear me say that, right? After all, the first 16 years of my nonprofit career were spent in designing and managing more than 35 major nonprofit fundraising events. We - yes, me too - preached that special events were supposed to identify relationships with potential new donor prospects, right? We called them "Friendraisers" and "FUNdraisers". In reality, a special event is something that happens perhaps annually but as a stand-alone function; like a birthday or an anniversary. I prefer the RELATIONSHIP-BUILDING ACTIVITY model, an on-going series of opportunities to acquaint like-minded individuals who work toward common goals.
Take this test to see how your organization's special event rates.
NEXT MONTH: How do you replace special events with RELATIONSHIP-BUILDING ACTIVITIES and still meet your budget needs? |
