What are the largest solar projects in Texas? Austin Energy's new Webberville PV plant is the largest to date, at 30 MW. CPS Energy's 16 MW Blue Wing project is second. The third might be a surprise. How about the collective distributed PV installations under Oncor's Solar PV Pilot Program, which will top the 10 MW mark this month?

TREIA President Testifies On Resource Adequacy At House State Affairs Committee Hearing

 

President Steve Wiese presented testimony on February 9, 2012 at a Texas House of Representatives State Affairs Committee hearing on behalf of TREIA. The Committee is chaired by Rep. Byron Cook of Corsicana. The hearing, which entertained invited testimony only, addressed the Committee's interim charge to "Examine the issue of resource adequacy in the Texas electricity market, federal and state interventions in the marketplace that may be negatively impacting future adequacy, and the best way to maintain resource adequacy." ... More>

TREIA Presents Transmission Session At Renewable Energy World In Long Beach - Access Presentations

 On February 15, at the request of the program committee for the Renewable Energy World Conference in Long Beach, CA, TREIA Executive Director Russel Smith organized and moderated a panel session on electric transmission. While the session was title "Transmission Access and Lessons from ERCOT and the Pacific Northwest," its content evolved over time to address a broader discussion. A grid access case in the Pacific Northwest was still in play as the conference approached and the presenter from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) was restricted in discussion of anything relating to the case. City of Austin 2nd In U.S. For Local Government Green Power Use 

Austin, TX (February 3, 2012) - 

The City of Austin municipal government is ranked 2nd in the country for the largest purchases of renewable energy by a local government for their electricity use and 8th overall nationally by any organization or business including some of the nation's top Fortune 500 companies, according to rankings just released by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership. The City of Austin government also ranks third overall for the largest purchases of renewable energy to power 100% of all of its electricity use. ... More>

El Paso Developer Solar Smart Living Touts 1st Texas Utility-Owned CPV Facility


Solar Smart Living

In late 2011 El Paso Electric (EPE) became the first electric utility company in Texas to own a Concentrated Photovoltaic (CPV) power generation project. The project, known as the Wrangler Solar Facility, is located on El Paso's East side at the company's Wrangler Substation.

ONTILITY Launches PV Installer Course To Meet NABCEP's New Educational Requirements

Nationally recognized ONTILITY Solar Training has responded quickly to the newly changed NABCEP PV Installer Certification requirements. Becoming a NABCEP Certified PV Installer will require longer and more advanced education to meet the new stringent requirements to qualify for the NABCEP Certified PV Installer Exam. NABCEP changed the amount and type of PV installer solar training needed and the number of PV installations required.

 

The ONTILITY Solar Training curriculum development team has introduced a new 88 Hr  Certified PV Installer Track to more than satisfy the  58 hour educational requirement that was announced by NABCEP on January 14, 2012.  ... More>

New TREIA member Tariff Power, Inc. has announced plans for development of a utility-scale solar power plant.

Tariff Power, Inc. has purchased a 1350 acre site, received all approvals to build, and scheduled interconnection for 100Mw. We are ready to begin construction as soon as we secure a buyer in a long-term power purchase agreement. We are currently entertaining offers for available power in 20-100Mw blocks with fixed cost or escalating rate structures starting at 8¢ Kwh. ... More>
