SB 981 Analysis Revised - 3rd Party Ownership Law Applies Outside ERCOT

U.S. Army Establishes Task Force For Large-scale Renewable Energy Projects

WASHINGTON, Aug. 10, 2011 

  

Secretary of the Army John M. McHugh announced today the establishment of the Energy Initiatives Office Task Force at the GovEnergy Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio.

 

The Energy Initiatives Office, or EIO, Task Force is part of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment, and will serve as the central managing office for the development of large-scale Army renewable energy projects. The EIO Task Force will be fully operational by Sept. 15, 2011.  More>

Texas Tech University Announces New Multidisciplinary Wind Energy Degree Program

CPS Energy Announces New 200 MW Wind Farm Near Corpus Christi

San Antonio, TX (August 8, 2011) 

CPS LogoCPS Energy, the nation's largest municipal buyer of wind energy and sixth among all energy providers, will soon add 200 megawatts (MW) of wind power to its growing renewable energy portfolio. Duke Energy Renewables, a commercial business unit of Duke Energy, will build, own, and operate the 200 MW Los Vientos I Windpower Project in Willacy County, located approximately 120 miles south of Corpus Christi and 20 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico.

DEFG Makes Resource Adequacy, Cost and Reliability Report Available   

 

A consumer preference for clean air and renewable resources remains strong, and thus there is the political will in many regions of the country to enable new investments in wind and solar power. ERCOT faces near-term capacity issues, and all power markets with a high reliance on intermittent resources are facing increased costs and greater uncertainty. Electric regions are adding greater responsiveness to address capacity needs and more fluidity to ancillary service markets to address ramping issues and grid stability. 

 

These are among the issues touched on in DEFG's recent Series of Regulatory Choices white paper No. 5 on "Resource Adequacy and the Cost of Reliability." 

APS Solar Partners With Houston Habitat To Reduce Neighborhood's Energy Consumption

Alternative Power Solutions Corp., dba APS Solar has partnered with Houston Habitat for Humanity to bring a local Houston neighborhood closer to net zero energy consumption. Twenty residences are expected to have solar electric systems when completed. Four of the homes also have a solar thermal system which helps reduce 30 percent of electrical consumption by heating water through a 32 square feet collector. More>

Plasma Gasification Corp., dba, Plasma2Energy has been named one of four projects to win an Innovation Grant Award from the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. The company's winning project is to demonstrate its plasma-to-energy technology. Uses microwave energy to convert waste materials to energy, including producing biofuels.
