Community College Colleagues:

The Central Region Consortium, the Center of Excellence, and the California Federation of Labor have joined together to host the first central region partnership building meeting between community colleges and the Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee in Fresno on Friday, January 20, 2012.

Our goal in convening this meeting is to bring together CTE and EWD community college leaders and members of the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) to explore building long-term relationships that align workforce education and training.  Our efforts are intended to support building good careers for California's workforce.

The agenda linked below will provide you with an overview of the day's activities which will be led by Carol Zabin, Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley.  Dr. Zabin is a labor economist whose research has addressed job quality, living wages, worker training and other economic development issues.

We also welcome Tim Rainey, Executive Director of the CA WIB; Cris McCullough, AVP of Workforce Development at American River College; and Matthew Kelly of the Sacramento/Sierra's Building and Trades Council  A tour of multiple apprenticeship training programs is also included.
