The FOLLOWING MESSAGE was received FROM Bobbie Edgin, CCCAOE Executive Secretary, and copied to me to distribute to the Regional Consortia Chairs.
Thanks, Sue Clark
Stephanie Low asks her message (below) be distributed to all regional list service members.
There is the need for instructors to participate in a WestEd study.
There's a time urgency attached to the request.
This information was sent a month or more ago via a listserv but evidently there were not sufficient responses from Computer Support Specialists and HVAC instructors. It seems best if you would send via your Region listservs. Perhaps you know of programs in your Region that you could specifically target and send to them individually. Stephanie would greatly appreciate your efforts in responding to her request.
Thanks, Bobbie Edgin
FROM STEPHANIE LOW, DEAN, CCC CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE We need your help. WestEd is an educational research and development agency and we have been contracted to conduct a paid study on behalf of the National Assessment Governing Board (part of the U.S. Department of Education). At the beginning of May we sent out an email asking states or districts with appropriate listservs to please post our request for qualified instructors to participate in this judgmental standards setting study. If you were able to do that, we thank you for your help, but we still need instructors from Computer Support Specialist and Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) programs to participate in our study.
I am writing now for three reasons:
1. To ask you to update or re-post the announcement of our study to include only Computer Support and HVAC programs 2. To let people know that we are now able to offer a $100 incentive for every person nominated (including themselves!) who is selected to participate as a panelist in the study 3. To emphasize that the last workshop will be held in St. Louis, MO, June 28 - July 1, 2011, so time is of the essence
Details are as follows:
The National Assessment Governing Board, part of the U.S. Department of Education, is conducting research that will allow the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)-known as "the Nation's Report Card"-to report on the academic preparation required of 12th graders to enter various job-training programs after they graduate from high school. As part of this effort, WestEd, an education-focused nonprofit organization, is conducting a study that will determine what academic knowledge and skills are required for students to be placed in job-training programs such as yours. For more information about this project, you may find the Governing Board's press release at http://nagb.org/newsroom/release/release-100810preparedness.htm. For more information about the Nation's Report Card, please visit the Governing Board's website: http://www.nagb.org.
Panelists will receive an honorarium of $500, travel and lodging expenses will be paid or reimbursed (consistent with federal regulations), as well as a daily subsidy to cover meals not otherwise provided. Participation in this study will involve the following activities:
* Listen to a 2-hour webinar (to be scheduled), during which we will provide a study orientation. * Following the call, completion of an on-line survey, which should take approximately one hour. * The actual standard-setting activities will take place in St. Louis from Tuesday, June 28, through Friday, July 1. Participants will likely need to travel to St. Louis on Monday, June 27, but we will end early enough on Friday to allow everyone to return home that evening.
Anyone interested in participating in this study should fill out a recruitment survey; either http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HVACrecruit or http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/computerrecruit.
Or, if they know of other qualified instructors who may be interested in participating, they should nominate them at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HVACnomination or http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/computernomination.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this study and thank you again for any help you can give us to find qualified applicants for this important study.
Thank you for your assistance,
