The Central Region Consortium serves as a regional framework to enhance the coordination of regional programs; to increase collaboration on regional priorities; and to serve as a link between community college Career Technical Education (CTE) programs, Economic and Workforce Development (EWD) Initiatives, and the Chancellor's Office of the California Community Colleges (CCCCO).

Dear Colleague,

Our Central Region Planning Workshop in June is always an energizing and fruitful event.  This year was no exception!   As we say goodbye to summer and settle into the fall semester, we wanted to take a moment to highlight our five regional priorities for 2010-2011.  Teams are working on each of the priorities, and dates are being set for various regional sessions and trainings.  Here is an update on our progress thus far:

1)      Professional Development

·         Watch for your invitation to attend a facilitative leadership training session on September 30 and October 1 at State Center Community College District's Clovis Center

·         Watch for new dean training on various topics at the CCCAOE fall and spring conferences

2)      Industry Sector Forums

·         Look for special sessions to explore and address the needs of selected industry sectors - stay tuned for the first marketplace later this fall

3)      Communication

·         Get ready for a new web presence for the Central Region.  Regional stakeholders have chimed in on the "look and feel" of the site and expressed interest in using the tool to address a variety of central region business needs

·         Our monthly newsletter has hit your computer screens...let us know what you think...and we're always interested in articles from our region! Send your articles to Sue Clark!

4)      Curriculum

·         Our planning team will explore: standardized approaches to career pathways and articulation and open-source curriculum repositories, among other innovations

5)      Faculty Involvement

·         Our planning team will explore partnerships and educational opportunities for faculty, counselors and CTE/EWD programs

We have a lot on our plate, and we couldn't do a bit of it without your input and participation!  Have a great semester, and we look forward to seeing you/hearing you at upcoming regional meetings and conference calls.  Take care.

BRIDGE PROGRAMS: A 21st CENTURY IDEA TO HELP ADULT STUDENTS SUCCEED

Nationwide Survey is active until September 10, 2010

We need your help disseminating a new survey designed to collect information about bridge programs across the country.

As you know,
bridge programs are a 21st century idea to help adult students obtain the necessary academic, employability, and technical skills they need to enter and succeed in post-secondary education and training programs.

Bridge programs are proliferating across the country at an exciting rate, but there is no composite picture of how many bridge programs exist.
The Joyce Foundation approached the Workforce Strategy Center to create a survey to collect this type of information.

The results will give funders and other key stakeholders a better sense of the depth and breadth of the field. It is designed to cast as wide a net as possible, and that is where we need your help as partners in this venture. We are asking you to share this email and survey with any program that you think should be captured in this nationwide scan.  ALL respondents will have a CHANCE TO WIN an Apple iPad!

Here is the link to the BridgeConnect survey:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SLY783Q. The survey will be active until Friday, September 10, 2010.

We are excited to get this survey into the field and thank you for your help distributing it to your networks.

Best,

FAMILY & CONSUMER SCIENCES (FCS) ANNOUNCES NEW PRODUCTS
The Statewide FCS Collaborative is excited about the new grant products they will be rolling out this year!

New booklets, Inspiring Student Success and Speak Up, will soon be on the way to each campus. In addition, an Entrepreneurship Student Map will be available this spring. This "map" will introduce students to entrepreneurship and give them information and activities to help them learn more about what it takes to be entrepreneurial.

We want to include 5 or 6 short (40 to 50 word) profiles of FCS students who have started their own successful businesses.  A photo of the student and a description of their venture will be included. If you have a former student that qualifies, would you please send us the contact information on the student? We will contact the student and get their story and picture. As we want to include different FCS disciplines, we look forward to your nominations.
