2010 STATEWIDE ELECTIONS
CORI BILL SIGNING
Organizations funded by the Civic Engagement Initiative, a fund supported by Access Strategies Fund, turned out thousands to the polls on Election Day. Unlike most cities around the country, Boston saw impressive voter turn out among low-income people, communities of color, and immigrants. A major ballot initiative that would have decreased state revenues for public education and social services was soundly defeated by these  communities.
MASSACHUSETTS CENSUS EQUITY FUND 2010

Census WomenThe 2010 Census provided a critical opportunity for Access
Strategies Fund and partner
funders to support

nonprofits to enlist their communities to participate in the census. Access created The Massachusetts Census Equity Fund which provided half of a million dollars to 30 nonprofits that increased census participation by up to10%, bringing billions of dollars into communities for the next ten years.  Read about the Fund and watch a video of the Massachusetts 2010 Census Experience

ACCESS TO EDUCATION PROGRAM LAUNCH

The Access Strategies Fund launched "Access to Education", a short-term one year project to empower African American parents in Boston to build and exercise their political and electoral power collectively to make changes in public education.  Access Strategies Fund selected Boston Parent Organizing Network, Union of Minority Neighborhoods and The Young People's Project to receive funding and technical assistance.
