DISCOVERING SCHOOLGIRL NEEDLEWORK
 
Georgetown needleworkOn Saturday May 15, 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, by appointment. Dr. Gloria Seaman Allen will lead an outstanding team of needlework and textile historians and offer free evaluations of 18th and 19th century needlework, with a special interest in needlework created in Washington, Alexandria and Georgetown.  Dr. Allen and her team will offer their insights about the origins and time period of examined needlework and relate the object to known regional styles and identified works from historic schools - such as Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School.  Monetary valuations will not be provided.

This free salon-style series explores our heritage, culture and current events with an author reading and discussing a new book in the intimate, comfortable setting of the Helen Hayes Gallery.  Prepare for lively and engaging conversations - and perhaps acquire a book personally inscribed by the author.

Manners, and her daughter JACOBINA MARTIN, as they discuss their new book Miss Manners' Guide to a Surprisingly Dignified Wedding.  Railing against the idea that etiquette requires extravagance, Judith and Jacobina Martin navigate the world of wedding planners, couples' Web sites, and pre-printed thank-you notes with respectful hilarity, guiding their "gentle readers" so that they won't be fooled by ostentation masquerading as proper etiquette.

Starting on Monday June 21st at 6:30 PM, National Theatre Summer Cinema will screen seven of Grant's most memorable films in the intimate Helen Hayes Gallery.  Featured films will include To Catch A Thief, His Girl Friday, My Favorite Wife, and An Affair to Remember  - just to name a just few.  Admission is free, and the complete listing of all the films and screening dates in the series will be available on our web site in mid May.
