Michigan State University and Michigan 4-H Youth Development annually offer scholarships to 4-H'ers. The Beaumont Tower Michigan 4-H Scholarship web page contains information and application materials for 4-H members, volunteers and families.

Selection Criteria 

Award recipients' applications will be evaluated based on:

  • 4-H involvement at county, regional, state, national and international levels
  • The range of 4-H experiences and project involvement
  • Outstanding achievement in 4-H
  • Scholastic excellence
  • Leadership and citizenship contributions within and outside of 4-H
  • Financial need (applies only to 4-H Rabbit/Cavy, and Michigan Farm and Garden Association scholarships)

Michigan State University 4-H Scholarships  

4-H clover These scholarships:

  • Are awarded annually to 6 Michigan 4-H'ers who are currently high-school seniors and who are applying as freshmen for a 4-year degree program at Michigan State University.
  • Provide $2,500 for 4 successive years of full-time study at MSU (a $10,000 value).
  • The 2012 deadlines for these scholarships are on or before:
    • October 15: Applicants submit their MSU 4-H scholarship application to their local county 4-H staff
    • November 1: Applicants must apply for MSU admission
    • November 1: County 4-H staff complete the staff section and forward it to the MSU Office of Admissions

Michigan 4-H Youth Development Scholarships  

There is 1 application packet for the 2 scholarships listed, with a December 1, 2012 deadline. On page 1, applicants check off which of the scholarships they're applying for. Then, they complete pages 1, 2 and 3. Each scholarship has separate information pages with requirements that must also be completed to be considered for the award. The scholarships are:

  1. Michigan Farm and Garden Association 4-H Scholarship (ranges in value from $360 to $1000) Several are awarded annually to college undergraduates with financial need and who are enrolled in specific programs. More details are available in the application packet. The Michigan Farm and Garden scholarship award selections are made during the summer and the Michigan Farm and Garden Association notifies nominees directly.
  2. Michigan Rabbit & Cavy 4-H Scholarship ($500, 2 to 4 are given annually to applications with at least 3 years of 4-H rabbit/cavy participation). The Michigan Rabbit & Cavy 4-H scholarship selection committee typically meets in January and winners are announced shortly thereafter.

Michigan State University Pre-College Scholarships

There is information about these scholarships (which apply $2,000 toward the student's first year at MSU as a degree-seeking student) on the web site. Students who are in grades 8, 9 or 10 and who have participated in an MSU pre-college program (such as 4-H Exploration Days, 4-H Great Lakes and Natural Resources Camp, 4-H Discovery Camp or 4-H Capitol Experience) may apply through a competitive application process.
