New 4-H Event Registration System
Michigan 4-H is proud to announce the roll out of a new 4-H Event Registration System. Tied to the ACCESS 4-H Online Management System, the new event-registration system registration will now handle 4-H volunteer trainings held at Kettunen Center and Kellogg Biological Station. In 2012-13, only 4-H workshops held at Kettunen Center and Kellogg Biological Station will be managed by this new system. Future state-level events will be added to the system in 2013 and beyond. The new system was developed in response to many requests and suggestions from counties and workshop participants.

Some popular features of this system include:

  • You can now register yourself (or a group) for workshops online and pay by credit card in the new event registration site, if you wish! However, you can still submit your registration and payment to your county office as you have done in the past.
  • If you are in the ACCESS 4-H Enrollment Database (because you are a registered 4-H member or volunteer), your registration will auto populate with your profile information. You will be asked to log in with your existing OpenID and password. If you do not know your OpenID, you will need to contact the 4-H program coordinator in your county. He or she can provide you with your OpenID number and reset your password so you can get in the system.
  • Even if you are not an enrolled 4-H member or volunteer, you can register yourself - and pay by credit card - for all 4-H workshops held at Kettunen Center and Kellogg Biological Station on a blank registration form the system will provide for you.
  • You can still register and pay for a 4-H workshop through your county office as you have done in the past.

 Who, When and How?

The first workshop using this new system will be the Michigan 4-H Visual Arts & Crafts Kettunen Center Workshop which will be held September 15 and 16, 2012 at Kettunen Center in Tustin. Registration opened on Friday, July 27. Click on this URL to see the description and register!

Announcements for upcoming workshops will be included in each edition of Michigan 4-H Today as well as communications from your county. These announcements will include the URL for each workshop. The page address will end with "/splash." When you click on the URL, it will take you to the workshop description and - if the workshop is open for registration - you will be able to register immediately. At the bottom of the "splash" page will be the buttons that will allow you to either register yourself or a group. Workshops begin accepting registrations about 2 months before they are held. So be sure to check the opening banner on the workshops you are interested in attending to see when you can begin registering. If registration is not open yet, you will still be able to click on the "splash" link to see a description of the event and there will be a message announcing when registration will be open for the workshop you are interested.

If you do not know your 4-H OpenID and password, contact the 4-H program coordinator in your local county Extension office. He or she can either provide you with that information or create one for you if your account has not yet been established. Each 4-H member and 4-H volunteer who has been entered in the ACCESS 4-H Online Enrollment System should already have an OpenID but if you haven't used it, you may need to have your password reset. Again, contact the 4-H program coordinator in your local county Extension office for this information. Once your password has been reset, you will get an email from the ACCESS 4-H Online Enrollment System with notification of your new password. You will also have an opportunity to change your password at that time.

Nonmembers and 4-H affiliates (such as parents and 4-H supporters) can also use the new self-registration system by clicking on the same URL address. A blank registration template will appear for individuals who are not in the database. The same payment options will be available for Kellogg Biological Station these individuals. The major difference is they will need to type in more information. Members and volunteers will find that their personal information will automatically be added to the appropriate parts of the registration form because they are already enrolled in the system!

We hope you find this new tool to be helpful as you prepare for the 2012-13 4-H workshop season. Click here to connect to a copy of our new system's workshop-registration instructions. We encourage you to print these instructions and review them before going to the registration site for the first time. It will make the process easier if you do.

We are excited to provide quicker, easier access to these valuable educational programs. Watch future issues of Michigan 4-H Today for updates on our system and new workshop postings.
