Position Opening:   Journey 4-H Youth Mentoring, Ottawa County

We are pleased to share information regarding a new position within Michigan 4-H Youth Mentoring.  Ottawa County MSU Extension is seeking applicants for one full-time position with Journey 4-H Youth Mentoring, a program that matches court-involved youth with caring adult role models.  The position is located in West Olive with in the Ottawa County MSU Extension office. The details for the position are listed below.

 

Program Instructor, 4-H Mentoring Program 

In concert with the 4-H Mentoring Extension Educator, the Extension Program Instructor for 4-H Youth Mentoring is responsible for developing site based mentoring and providing supervision to mentoring matches involved in Journey 4-H Youth Mentoring.  This will include volunteer recruitment, volunteer screening, volunteer placement, case management of mentoring matches, program reporting and evaluation.  Duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Recruiting, screening and training volunteers to mentor youth
  •  Providing case management support to mentoring matches
  • Working closely with court staff to identify and orient youth
  • Identifying continued program funding, marketing and fundraising activities
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate, required program records and reports
  • Acquiring, maintaining and expanding appropriate skill level in youth development
  • Understanding and implementing diversity and affirmative action principles and compliance standards

Minimum Requirements

Associates degree, knowledge, and at least two years of experience in both program management and subject matter related to the program area of emphasis. Experience in working with volunteers (i.e. recruitment, training and management) and/or youth at risk is preferred. Must have effective verbal and written communication skills; proficient computer operation skills; valid driver's license and automobile insurance; and flexible schedule (includes some evenings and weekends).

 

Desired Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in social work or related field; working knowledge of case management and mentoring programs.  Fair Labor Standards Act Designation: This position is non-exempt as defined under the FLSA.  For consideration, send cover letter and detailed resume by Wednesday, November 24, 2010 to:
