4-H Mentoring Update
Job Openings:  Ottawa County and Muskegon County 4-H Youth Mentoring
CanoeingWe are pleased to share information regarding two new positions within MIchigan 4-H Youth Mentoring.  MSU Extension's Journey 4-H Youth Mentoring program matches court-involved youth with caring adult role models. Through a grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, Journey 4-H is expanding to offer outdoor, skill-building activities to mentoring matches.
 
Ottawa County MSU Extension and Muskegon County MSU Extension are seeking applicants for two full-time positions with the Journey 4-H Youth Mentoring Program to support the new Outdoor Challenge programming component.  Positions are located in West Olive with the Ottawa County MSU Extension office and in Muskegon with the Muskegon County MSU Extension office.  The details for both positions are listed below.
  
Program Instructor, 4-H Mentoring Program 
In concert with the 4-H Mentoring Program Coordinator, the Program Instructor coordinates, plans, organizes and implements Journey 4-H Youth Mentoring: The Outdoor Challenge in partnership with the 20th Circuit Court, Family Division/Juvenile Services and the Muskegon County Family Court.  This position also assists with program reporting and evaluation requirements. Duties include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Recruiting, screening and training volunteers to mentor youth
  • Providing case management support to mentoring matches
  • Planning Outdoor Challenge activities for matches
  • Working closely with court staff to identify and orient youth
  • Identifying continued program funding, marketing and fundraising activities
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate, required program records and reports
  • Acquiring, maintaining and expanding appropriate skill level in youth development
  • Understanding and implementing diversity and affirmative action principles and compliance standards
 
Minimum Requirements
Associate's Degree, knowledge and at least two years of experience in both program management and subject matter related to the program area of emphasis. Experience in working with volunteers (i.e. recruitment, training and management) and/or youth at risk is preferred. Must have effective verbal and written communication skills; proficient computer operation skills; valid driver's license and automobile insurance; and flexible schedule (includes some evenings and weekends)
 
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in social work or related field; working knowledge of case management and mentoring programs.

This position is non-exempt as defined under the FLSA.
