Happy New Year!
2012. Really? What happened to 2011? It sure did go by quickly! Did you achieve everything you wanted to achieve in 2011 or did you run out of time? Yes, time is one of the most precious commodities we have.
Do you remember when you were a child and time moved much slower, and then with each passing year time went faster and faster. This is what I call the hourglass of time. We all have the same 24 hours in a day, yet some people achieve much more than others. I believe the main reason some people achieve more in the same amount of time is because they have a written plan that includes strategic goals with completion dates and some type of accountability.
The sad truth is that 80% of business owners fail to plan, set goals or have access to an accountability partner. They fly by the seat of their pants and hope for the best, then at the end of the year, they wonder why nothing in their business changed for the better.
I want all of our readers to excel and move their business to the next level in 2012. Below you will find six steps to help you plan and achieve more in 2012.
- Take a critical look at your business and analyze what did and didn't occur in your business in 2011. Then identify what worked and was profitable and what didn't work and wasn't profitable.
- Make a decision of what you want to happen in your business in 2012. There is power in decision. It isn't until we make a decision that things start to happen.
- Create a written plan of goals you want to achieve in 2012. You have to know your destination if you want to reach it. However, many business owners plan better for their vacation than for their business. You can change this. Take the time to create a written plan for what you want to achieve in 2012.
- Develop comprehensive strategies and completion dates for each goal. Remember that it is complete strategies that work. If you miss one step in the strategy, you have wasted time and money. Take the time to think things through.
- Find an accountability partner. We tend to follow through when we are held accountable by others. Even the top CEO's need and have accountability.
- Review, assess and tweak your plan on a regular basis.
